Equal Rights, Equal Taxes
Paying taxes is one of our responsibilities as citizens. Regardless of status and one's standard of life, taxes are paid equally, except in cases where bills are measured by the rate at which certain things are consumed.
The truth is the law is good, faultless, and fair, it covers everything and everyone. This is to the end that no one gets cheated.
Life is difficult for some people, in some homes, people barely eat three square meals a day. Also, there are people who live like they are in heaven. They don't even know what it means to be hungry. Everything is just in place for them.
It is easy to say that those who find life very difficult should be treated with a level of consideration but it's not so with the law. Whether you are poor or rich it's not the law's business. It sees all of us as equal
Before a bill is passed into law, I believe it is often weighed and tested to see if it will be convenient for both the rich and the poor.
The taxes we are talking about might be disturbing yet, they are usually not beyond what we can handle. Both the rich and the poor can cope with it because they are not usually as expensive as we can't handle. Like in Nigeria, most of the citizens don't even know they are paying taxes indirectly because of how invincible those taxes are.
In my opinion, both the rich and poor should pay taxes alike, no one should pay less or more except by choice. If the rich are to pay more than the poor, then the law isn't fair to them, their rights have been tampered with. What makes them different from others? It's the same air we breathe, they also have one head like everyone, and sometimes they don't even consume resources like the poor.
It is not the rich man's fault that he is rich, he labored for it. It is not his fault that the poor man is poor. Why make him pay extra for someone's misfortune? He/she has the wealth he/she has because he/she took advantage of opportunities and time.
The poor man doesn't have the right to see the rich like a small god because he has what he doesn't have. Any of them can make it in life. Instead of feeling cheated because the rich man has much and they both pay equal tax, the poor man should use that as motivation to double up too.
The law ought to be fair to everyone, we are equal before it, so we ought to be treated alike regardless of status, class and so on, I know I sound mean but it's reality.
Going by the law, if the rich are to pay higher taxes, then their service should also be higher, more than that of the poor. If not on that condition, anything else is like extorting money from them.
