Four Effective Ways To Combat Boredom
You wake up suddenly and discover that nothing is just making sense to you, you turn on your data, and jumped into social media yet it seems not to solve the problem, you only saw only a few friends who you don't even interact with, you tried to create a conversation but it's as if you were forcing it then you gave up and left.
Afterwards, you tried watching some movies but you stumbled on a boring one. So, you finally resolved to sleep, unfortunately, you lay down there for hours and your eyes were just running to and fro in the room.
These things happen to all of us, no matter how engaged and how one is surrounded by people, there are days that boredom sets in. One day, the activities won't be there, and the people you often rely on won't be anywhere to be found.
There was a time when I thought that even if there were no people in the world, I could still be happy and enjoy my life, but a consistent encounter with boredom proved me wrong.
Boredom is a disease on its own, it's so potent and respects no one regardless of class, wealth, age, and so on.
It may look like a normal thing but it's one of the most dangerous weapons that the devil uses to bring many people into nothingness.
It's usually that time of boredom one begins to think of the most useless and stupid things to do. All of a sudden you would find yourself under pressure to engage in certain things that ordinarily you would not do, just to get yourself back. It is at this point people begin to nurse evil thoughts and you would be surprised how someone who used to be good, turned out to be something else.
The period of boredom is usually the time of vulnerability, if one doesn't master how to put his or herself together during this period, he or she may end up getting himself/herself into trouble.
Boredom is a normal thing but I don't take it lightly anytime I perceive an atom of it coming my way. Boredom is so subtle, It will come very faint and innocent, but give it an opportunity and you would be shocked at what it will do to you.
There are many ways to combat boredom, if you get so lucky to get the right one, you would be able to step out as fast as possible. However, we must know that there is no exact fixed strategy to fight boredom, what works for you today might not work tomorrow, and one just needs to be smart. Below are a few methods that work for me;
1 . Taking a stroll: if you are like me and don't always like company, you can get yourself engaged by leaving your house and taking a walk with very nice music.
I do this most of the times. thank God where I reside is still a developing environment, there are so many places to walk to without anyone interrupting you. As you walk around, enjoying the melody of the song you are playing, you would start feeling better. If you reside in places that are not safe, you can take a walk to the nearest football pitch or basketball court, you must not go far.
This method is often my favorite, It take just little time for me to be fine when am engaging it. Staying in one place when you are bored often complicates the situation, you must learn how to go out of the house.
2 . Get busy studying the word of God, inspirational books, or praying: another effective method is practicing meditation. Study the word of God, or any book that inspires you, meditate on it, and take some time to pray. It doesn't work instantly, but as you stay there pressing deep, you will discover that you are refreshed, and the boredom will go away.
3 . Watch movies: majority of people use this method often, but it's not always effective, especially when you are watching movies that are not interesting, it may end up making it worse. Though it works for some people, it also works for me sometimes.
4 visit or invite my friends of the same gender to come over: boredom slips into our minds when we are alone and idle. The moment we are engaged with work or surrounded by people, it disappears.
Whenever I noticed that l am bored already and I don't have the desire to engage the other methods, what I do is invite my male friends to come over to the house or visit them depending on how it seem best to them. When they come around we talk, share ideas and crack jokes, from there, I feel happy and relieved.
I am specific about gender because the moment of boredom is usually a period of vulnerability, sometimes it can give room for things you don't expect. To be on the safety side, I prefer to have my male friends rather but if there's more than one person coming then I can accommodate any gender.
There are so many other methods, these are only but a few. There is one secret to winning the battle against boredom and that is to stay engaged. Get busy with something even if it's not interesting. As you keep doing it, you will discover that you are no longer bored.
