In The Spirit Of Christmas
It's been a while since I was this curious about Christmas, often I see it as Sundays but for this year the feeling is Special. I am just excited about the day and am eager to see it, it's like the feeling I used to have during my childhood.
That sounds a bit usual because this year has been one of the toughest years in the history of my country. The hardship this year is exceptional, it's enough reason to mess my mind up but here am I full of joy and expectations.
So far, I won't say things are moving as I desired. The price of everything in the market is already shooting high. I went and inquired about the price of chicken a few days ago and I got the shock of my life. Something we bought 8,000 Naira ($5) last year and we complained, now it's 25,000 Naira ($16)
Thanks God, we have three already on ground we wanted to add more for New Year celebration. I told my mother we should manage the one we already have. We will cross the bridge when we get there.
I wonder how the less privileged will cope with this high inflation. Sometimes, I wish I have special powers to just turn things around but I am just a man. Well, I believe we will all scale through.
Aside the tension coming from the high prices of goods. The chores the season has is also overwhelming. Yesterday was full of washing of clothes and sanitation.
My whole body is aching me currently, however, everywhere looks good and neat, it's like it's not our home. Cleanliness is indeed something we should hold firm unto.
From tomorrow, we will start baking and slaughtering animals for the celebration and the majority of the work will fall on me, especially the slaughtering aspect.
I know so far, I have been talking about chores and the hardship. Well, it is not all about work and tension. One sweet thing with the Christmas season is our loved ones who have traveled out come back home to celebrate with us.
One of my closest friends returned on Saturday. We have been together ever since, I no longer stay in doors and bored, he's either at my house or am at his when we are done with chores.
I have also been receiving calls from my loved ones who came back home for the holidays. A lot of them wants us to hang out within the week and I am happy about it.
It's so beautiful when you receive calls or texts from those whom you thought forgot about you. It makes us feel loved. This festive season is going to be one of a kind for me. I can feel it already with the massive love coming from people around me.
I want to plead with us to also spread love to people if we are opportune, it must not be in cash or in substance, it can also be in kind. Call people, visit them and encourage them.
If you have the resources you can extend a helping hand as well, it will go a long way to promote humanity. A lot is going on in the world right now, people are facing so much difficulty, it will be very thoughtful of us to stand by them even at a time like this.
Finally, With the economic situation, I will advise us to manage the small resources we have. Christmas is not a once in a lifetime event, if you don't get to celebrate the way you want this year, next year is another time. Spend with caution, there is no need to incur debt on yourself.
