We Deserve To Know It All
Leadership is not an easy thing, when I see the way my mother carries every one of us along and puts in her best to ensure that everything goes well in the family I marvel.
While I was growing up, there were questions, I asked her that she didn't answer, and there were things happening around my vicinity that she didn't let me know. Often she might just come home and say, "Don't go to so and so place, if you do and I find out you would be in trouble."
Some of those things helped me as a child, but I won't deny the fact that they also affected me wrongly. Some things that I ought to know that were hidden from me ended up affecting me negatively.
The Government is just like a mother to us, sometimes for the good of the people the leaders might be forced to keep certain matters hidden until such a matter is either solved or goes beyond their strength.
If not for how corruption has made its way into most governments, the government is supposed to be like our backbone.
Whether we like it or not, it's not every information a caring parent would reveal to the children under his or her care even if it's fit for them to know. The parent has to ensure they can handle it first.
So, the matter of keeping certain information from the citizens and revealing only the ones they should know is birthed out of love for the citizens. News is powerful, but a bad one has the potential to cause so much damage to people.
In my home, there are things I don't open up to my siblings, sometimes I keep those things in mind for days and even weeks analyzing then opening up finally when I discovered that they are ready to receive them.
But I noticed something, no matter how long you keep a matter from someone, probably for the good of the person, if you should be unable to find a solution to that and it gets to reach the person eventually, it will still create the same effect it would have created if you had told the person earlier.
Sometimes it's even best to just tell the person and allow them to through the pains and look for a possible way out rather than keep it hidden and then suddenly surprise them with it, it hurts most in that kind of situation.
I am not in support of the government keeping certain information from her people, worse, now that they are no longer trustworthy and reliable. Most governments don't have what it takes to protect us anymore, so why should they keep us in the dark? Let us know our fate so that we will know the next step to take.
Imagine how the Nigerian government overnight removed fuel subsidies without informing its citizens early enough. Look how people are suffering in the country because of that action currently.
The same thing a few years ago, they just surprised people by changing currency overnight. People had to start from nowhere because we were not prepared.
I know they have planned all those things for a long, why didn't they inform the people before hand so that they can prepare for it?
Anything kept hidden without being solved has the ability to cause more damage than the ones revealed earlier. The citizens are the government, nothing should be kept from them.
It's because of how bad most governments are if not everyone is supposed to contribute his or her own part in making society a better place. Where those in power fail, the citizens can equally help out but the citizen's voices are disregarded.
We all are supposed to take part in ensuring that we have a better society to live in, the government alone can't make it happen. Imagine bandits are going to raid a particular part of the country and the government knew about it but didn't tell the people rather they deployed an army to that region.
Even if a curfew was placed in place, some stubborn people would still go out through other ways and some of them might end up becoming victims of circumstances. But If the news reaches the community, people will prepare for what's coming, those who can't stay might evacuate and those who are able might even be of help to the army when they eventually come.
The people ought to know whatever is going on in their country, if their doom is coming, let them know, if good is coming, they should know too. This is for them to plan and prepare themselves ahead for whatever is coming, even if it's bad, if they prepare themselves ahead, the effect wouldn't be as bad as when it comes up on them unawares.
