Hello everyone, welcome you all to another edition of HiveLearners creative Sunday. For today's creative day, I decided to prepare a special and demure golden yam which can also be called egg yam. 😊
Golden Yam is another special way of preparing yam different from the regular way we all prepare it at home majorly which is just peeling off the skin and frying in hot oil or boiling and eating with sauce. Golden Yam is unique due to the way it's prepared and got it name golden due to the presence of egg which when put in oil it turns into golden brown color.
This meal is not always prepared at home not because egg is so expensive neither because tubers of yam are expensive too but because of it process. You know it is much more easier to do the regular frying recipe than the golden yam own but nevertheless all methods are delicious and consume with pride.
Truth be told, from my own angle, it's been a while I prepare this recipe and then I decided to because of my little cousins that have been with us for the holiday. So I took them to the market to get a few stuff we need at home and then we came to this spot where this man sells it and their appetite aroused. Well I just had to buy for them...you know the big aunty stuff but they ended up not liking it I will say the taste wasn't too pleasant at all which was why I decided to prepare my own for them to taste. And the end was amazing. Everyone just wants more. 😊
To begin with our golden yam, these were the ingredients I used:
- Yam ( I used medium sized half tuber)
*Salt ( half teaspoon)
*Water ( 75cl for boiling yam)
*Eggs ( 2)
*Oil ( as desired)
Materials used:
Pot, knife, frying pan and spoon.
PROCEDURES
Firstly, I peeled off the skin of the yam and sliced it into sizable pieces to cook easily. I added salt to the yam to taste but not all cause I would be needing it to mix the eggs after which I poured in the water and it stayed on the fire for about ten to fifteen minutes before bringing it down.
After taking it down from the fire, I allowed to cool off after which I used my kitchen knife to slice again into thin slices for frying. I didn't allow the yam to over cook else it would starts to pieces which will make it a disaster.
When that was done I set my frying pan on the fire, added the oil a good amount of it and allowed to heat up. After that, I broke one egg first added little salt to give it taste and stirred properly.
I went ahead to dip the yam in the egg generously and into the hot oil it went. While frying I ensure to flip both sides till it turns golden just the way we are seeing it. I did same thing for all the yams till I was through and our special golden yam is ready for consumption.
