This prompt actually did brought back memories and I clearly remembered when a family friend got admission into the university although to study mass communication but unfortunately she wasn't given her desired course to study rather history was offered to her. She wept and wept and we all felt pity for her but my girl wanted to go to school so badly that she accepted the offer.
I believe one reason my friend cried her eyes out was because of how the course has lost its value over time compared to the story my dad told us how it was one of their favorite subject back then in school. they were so engrossed with history probably because the country was still in a better shape compared to today. True history isn't taken seriously in other countries and my country also infact all through my highschool I did nothing called history although it's not a worry to me but thinking through the whole stuff now I probably think it's due to the state of the country or what do you think too?
True, I enjoyed it whenever my dad sits us down to tell us stories of one military cope to another one, the economic situation of the country back then how he used five thousand naira way back 1999 to purchase a family size bed and a standing fan and all that. How this was sold for this price that price and a lot of it. It is good we know all this at least to know a little about our country. Many will say there is current affairs but I bet majority of the people won't even bother going through it. I enjoyed all the stories my dad told us but it would be even better when they get to teach us in school. By that way whether we like it or not we study it if we want to pass the paper but what am against is why it is being taught in universities as a course like what's the certainty that these guys will use their qualification to get a good job opportunity a side teaching. So it would be good for us all when it is taught in secondary schools to be informed about our past heroes but not in colleges.
Lastly, only for future references I will advise history should be reconsider and only in highschool for our generation and the next to come and after that whoever that is interested in the government world can broaden his or her knowledge. And I repeate it is solemnly for the sake of knowing about the past but I bet it would be a shame and a slap to the leaders and all govt officials seeing how they have failed woofully in their rulership.
