MY UNDERSTANDING ABOUT CANCEL CULTURE

Cancel Culture is the term used to describe the social phenomenon in which a person is rejected or disregarded by the public, typically on social networking sites. Additionally, it entails social media public humiliation.

We all know that social media is quick to judge and also spread rumors, some people are on social media just to sabotage others for their own selfish interests, and I think we should all say no to cancel culture.

At first, when I saw the prompt I thought I should just ignore it but when I was on TikTok this afternoon responding to people's messages, I saw a trend about a lady whose account was banned because of how people humiliated her about her opinion to live, I know she was chasing crowd and this has been trending for days now, I do not blame her for uttering such statement because she doesn't have a good upbringing, how can a lady said she can never have fun with a man who can not afford to pay her 20 million naira, I know she will be in one corner weeping now because what she will be making out of TikTok can never be small, she has over 3million followers and her account was banned just the way people hijacked her with her statement.

Social media is not a place where you can just open your mouth and vomit nonsense, if you are good people will say something about you not talk of when you are bad, social media can frustrate some people and can lead to depression in as much you are getting your daily income from there, the way people throw tantrum baffles me, the way some celebrities have fans that fight on their behave is what I do not like.

Everyone has to be careful of what they will say on social media to avoid backlash, some people are going into depression because of how people humiliate them on social media, I saw a post where this lady replied to a follower with a curse, they are quick to abuse and involve their families, must social media always be about violence? Everyone is now trending carefully to avoid tantrums and this can tamper with mental health.

I remembered when my account was hacked, it was never a dollar account just that I was viewing people's posts alone, I was so depressed and was thinking of how to start again, it was like some part of my body was removed now let's talk about someone who is making millions out of it if his or account is ban because of how people downgraded her or because of the way people reply him or her, how will the person feel, we are all human and I believe we should limit the way we embarrass people online if this situation should happen to anyone of us how long can we take that.

Let me talk about body shaming, the way people body shame on social media is so alarming, they never care about your mental health, so many people are afraid of posting pictures on social media which is why most of them are living a fake life because they do not want anyone to body shame them if you are slim you are in trouble, also if you are fat that one is the most worse offense on social media, you will now be afraid of living your real life, you will have to hide the real you just to satisfy and avoid what people will say on social media.

Social media creators should find a way to solve this problem because they are the founders of their apps and I am sure there will be a way to limit all this, maybe they can make rules for abuse and report anyone who is lighting this fire in other to escalate.

Social media is for fun and to make business not to add stress to other people's mental health or destabilize our emotions, not to make you less of yourself, there should be a permanent eviction on social media for anyone guilty of such offense.

This is my entry for this week's episode of hivelearners community prompt of#hl-w116e3 which the topic is "CANCEL CULTURE"

Sort:

Although this act can be good sometimes, but we must be careful and balance things up, else we'll affect the victim mental health, via depression and the likes, I agree with you on the need to regulate this.

The case involving the girl you mentioned is a sad one. Loose life, loose tongue, see what she is facing now. And social media users don't even know when to stop. I fear for her mental health...

Her name is saida, I also spoke about her while discussing this topic. Apparently she said things that goes contrary with the opinion of the masses and in so doing people targeted her and ensured majority of her accounts on social media is banned not just tiktok only. Seeing the way people moved against her it is kind of hard to tell if what she said was the reason behind what happened or there was another agenda behind it.

Some social media are making efforts restricting some foul comments about people but then it is not whole. People actually go through a lot from the hands of others who humiliate them publicly and I say, that is very inhuman and evil.
People should learn to respect the human dignity

A whole lot is happening on X itself. I scroll through different comments of people and the way they throw tantrums at people, judging them and calling them all sorts of names, it could derail a person if care isn't taken. Social media has turned to something else and we just must be careful what we say out there or how we also take people's criticism on us.
