THE ACADEMIC DECADENCE IN MY COUNTRY BECAUSE OF AI.

in #hive-153850yesterday

The advent of AI has automatically rendered some subjects and courses useless. When one study such course it might be difficult to stay relevant.
The kind of educational system we have presently in my dear country Nigeria is quite amazing. Sometimes when i think about this as if i should shade uncontrollably tears owing to the fact of the kind of things going over there. The school is not by merit any longer neither is there any room for professional development unlike many years ago where competency plays a vital role.

With the decadence we have in the system of education because of AI, this open a great door for some of the courses to become irrelevant and no serious value attached to it. The corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of every area of the sector which affects our productivity. It's worthy to note that most courses in Nigerian schools are gradually loosing relevance hence some of them are becoming outdated. Subjects like library science hmmm the big question remains how many people go to library today? Everything is online is just to google the site and ftech your information. If you device a means, you can be easily employed because all soft copy materials would be kept in drives online.

When i was pursuing my higher certification, one of my senior who studied social studies graduated and God blessed him with a job with the bank as a cashier. Hmmm the big question is what's the relationship between social studies and bank? If a social studies specialist works in the bank, what would the accountant do again? This is truly the condition of my beautiful country at a moment. It will interest you to know that there hundred of people that have obtained their master's degree and some even PhD but yet no reasonable or good job gotten yet. I was informed that Dangote Company sought to employ even PhD holders as drivers. What a country we have. If you don't accept such offer where else would you work? Machine instead would work on your behalf.

Truth be told, it's very difficult for someone to practice what he has learnt from school. The environment doesn't warrant anyone to do such. Remember in the edition one, i wrote on the issue of history and how that it has gradually loss relevance. I would like to clearly say that Some of the marketing courses introduced in most higher institution today are just inactive. They are used just for selfish gain and extort resources from the students. In my opinion, such courses should be lay aside because it see it having any significance in the lives of students. You have to go outside the box if you want to make impacts.

Another course i felt is a duplication and perhaps not relevant is health sciences. We already have biology which covers virtually every aspects of human and personal health therefore isolating it to a particular subject might not be necessary. Instead biology should be expanded to other more units. In those days, our great parents with their teachers grade two could wrath wonders compared with the present kind of education we have today. My cousin finished his NCE and came out with one of the best results hence he was qualified for national service and a car was given to him. What we have now is just a mess and a shadow of the genuine standard of education we had before.

I had the privilege to attend one of the famous conferences in the first three universities established in Nigeria. When i got there, i went straight to the dinning Hall to get some food to eat. I was reliably informed that in the 1960s people take milk and tea from the tap. This has changed completely now. Those facilities has turned to something else now. Technology has taken over now.

The government should endeavour to restructure the curriculum and give space for specialised courses to be practiced.
Any subject that can't be practiced in Nigeria shouldn't be accepted in the higher institution for students to study because AI is rendering a lot of such subjects useless.

Thanks for reading through my entry for this edition and all comments appreciated.

That is what life is teaching us all.
The only means of survival is diversify in whatever you know.
Develop and learn skills.
Because saying you studied this or that doesn't really bring much in some cases.
