Is the holiday coming to an end so fast? That’s a question from my heart whenever I think about resuming work so soon. Regardless, everything that has a beginning must have an end, as the popular adage goes.
Just last week, we began celebrating Christmas, attending carol services from one invitation to another. The atmosphere was filled with melodious songs ranging from "Silent Night," "Joy to the World," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," and many more. I have been observing holidays in the past, but there’s something unique about the end-of-the-year holiday. Most people see their family just once a year, and that’s during this festive season.
The feeling of togetherness is so delightful that it makes you wish it would never end. I wonder if I feel this way alone, but that’s certainly how it feels for me. If you ask me, I would love for the holiday to be extended so I can enjoy even more time with my family and friends.
Despite all the hardships faced in 2024, people are out to revel in the season. Everywhere is bustling; ShopRite is overflowing, eateries and restaurants are packed, and cinemas and fun parks are alive with activities. Everyone seems grateful, in one way or another, that we have persevered despite the country’s economic challenges. We move!
However, the holiday is gradually winding down. By the 6th of January, work resumes as usual, and we are all hoping for a better 2025. We resume our normal hustle and hurdles of life to make ends meet. We are starting the usual work routine with a pre-resumption meeting slated to be held on the 3rd of January where all necessary information needed for the new term will be communicated.
Returning to the normal routine of waking up as early as 5 a.m. to tackle work commitments and closing by 6 p.m. to confront house chores until you finally fall asleep can be daunting. This routine continues for three months before we get another chance to break free again. Hmm! May God bless our hustle in life. Even though, as a teacher, we enjoy holidays more than other sectors, believe me, we are not considered to be totally free because teachers are not on holiday; it is only the students that should be on holiday.
As a result, work must continue. You can be called at any time to do "this and that," and that was what happened yesterday when we were called to gather for physical auditing, after which the documents requested were uploaded online. A life was cut short of living yesterday on their way back home. Many were injured critically, and lots of people wasted money and energy all to come back home fruitless. Hmmm! Are we compassionate about the well-being of our workers? A question to all!
People under the hot sun🤔
The loss of our colleagues yesterday over an exercise that could have been scheduled to be done during working days, not during the holiday period, is so disheartening and frustrating. I hope the holiday is extended!
Rest In Perfect peace to the souls we lost yesterday 😭
