One part of life I have grown to know and accept is that whether you are good or not, others always have something to say about you, sometimes their words make us feel happy, and other times, it can be deadly what they say about us, as these words mostly stem from a place of jealousy and hate, on the online space, we see these sets of people tagged as trolls trying to slander their fellow online neighbor, celebrities get the most hit from them, while some ignore, there go ahead to reply these trolls and some go the extra length to sue them.
To me, I see these trolls as jobless people who are not happy with their lives so they derive joy from trying to make others feel as frustrated as they are. They are not only found online, but they are also around us, some people just one day decide to start slandering somebody out of the jealousy of their heart, let me explain my recent experience, in my place of residence, I tend to keep to myself, but never fail to extend formal greetings to my neighbours when I come across them, which is often when I'm on my way out or in, as they hardly see me when I'm home, I'm always indoors, this same lifestyle can be said for my husband, a couple of months ago, we received an invite from the police, only for my hubby to honour their invite, found our landlord there, and the next thing he was told was that the landlord had accused him of being an armrobber, thankfully these policemen were not the local illiterates we do watch on Nollywood,
so they did their investigation, received a statement from my husband and let him go after verifying his place of work and mine which was total opposite of the accuser, thank God for the internet and technology thwt made things faster, and all was done in about an hour, I imagined if things were still done manually, would they have locked up my husband for someone's false accusation and slandering?
Now tell me why anyone wouldn't want to take extra action to charge such a Landlord to court, but my husband just said we should let him go, as his action was out of ignorance and jealousy, if some people see you doing well, it hurts them that that they find ways to bring you down, so rather than wasting my money, time and energy trying to sue them, it's better to just avoid them which we are currently doing, while we try to raise funds to get another apartment and hopefully complete home project in the nearest future.
But in a case where this hate speech becomes life-threatening, and affects our source of income or reputation, without any doubt, I will be taking legal action because in that situation I'm losing something tangible to me, and it would also serve as a lesson to upcoming haters to not mess with me in the future.
