Volunteering is something that heats our souls for sure. I will be frank I did in the past more volunteering than I have been doing in the last couple of years. Maybe because I am busier, small kids make our life so much busier than we want sometimes. But I need to go back to volunteering more since I want to teach my kids about that. I want them to create more conscience about helping the other around us, which includes those who are more in need in our society.

The last opportunity that I had to be a volunteer, was during my last job in a cancer research institute. The interesting thing about working in an institute like that is that they are always looking for donations. So they participate in many events to keep the research continuing. Well, when there is an event they recruit employees who want to be in these events and help somehow. It isn't mandatory, so you can choose between working or going to these events. Sometimes the events don't require you much thing and even have fun, such as golf events. I went once in a golf event, someone borrowed me some golf cubs and I played.

But there are events more associated to educating. One of them I decided to participate. The institute had a table in front of the entrance of a yearly wine event. Interesting right? A cancer institute education stands in front of an alcohol fair. Ok, wine has some compounds that are anti-oxidants and can help avoid cancer, but still, the use of alcohol is also associated with promoting the disease. So I spent there in this stand for a whole afternoon between 12PM and 5PM.

Our job is to give pamphlets and talk about cancer and our institute, trying to promote it. In addition, answering questions about it. In addition, there was a raffle to win wine bottles, and we were selling the tickets. So most people were more interested in buying the raffle to try to get luck. I spent a long time standing during this day since there wasn't any place to sit in the stand. But it was an interesting experience and I learned specially that it is difficult to bring the attention of people to this need for funding cancer research.

Like I mentioned in other posts, right now I have a father going through difficulties with cancer. And it is interesting to see how he changed his views about life, and this sensitive topic that he avoided so long to talk about it. We usually perceive how important investment and helping to cure diseases like cancer is, only after we live this in fullness the experience. After we see that we are regular mortal beings with an expiration date. I remember that the big donors of the institute were rich people who were fighting cancer, or family members of someone who were fighting cancer. That is how life is in general.

#hivebr

It really helps to network in big companies that way, and it's a good thing to do! We all have expiration dates for sure, mine's seems to be getting closer at a faster rate. It's sad when you realize more life is behind you than there is left in front of you! lol

Sometimes, it can be hard to remember that we're mortals. All our achievements, all our goals, were still just flesh and bone. I guess it's good to always remember our mortality, it helps keeps us grounded and remember the most important things.
I'm sorry about your father... I hope you all find the strength to get through this.

I guess it's good to always remember our mortality, it helps keep us grounded and remember the most important things.

We fail a lot on that...we keep busy with problems, keep complaining about bills, governments etc. But in the end how worthful was that time spent doing that? Once in a while, I get myself looking to my daughters seeing how they grow, and how I admire them. Yesterday I stared at my oldest and remembered her when she was just a bald baby. Now she is almost 8 years old. I want to keep feeling every second with those that I love...

thanks for the words, he needs lots of strength right now, he is starting this new battle and hopefully he doesn't give up too soon!

I'm sure he'll pull through!😊
