First aids are a necessary learning for parents.

I had my second child thinking that things were going to be similar compared to my first one. Right in the hospital I passed through a situation in her first night that was totally different for me. She was in our room in the middle of the night, and then we realized that she was choking in her bassinet. I tried my best, I learned that you need to face the baby with the belly towards your arms and give small taps on her back when a choking event happens. I saw that it didn't worked well, so after a couple of seconds trying I called the nurses and they brought her outside to remove some mucous that was in her respiratory ways with some equipment. But how am I prepared to deal with general first aids?

There are courses in here that you even learn how to do CPR. I am not trained in that for sure, but I was interested in attending so I could learn a bit in a formal way about first aid. For now, all first aid methods are learned by practice and videos, such as the Heimlich Maneuver. I had one or two events with my kids where I started and could deal with choking events with food. I started with the tap in the back and it helped together with removing the food with my finger from their mouth. If I can remember well all the events were associated with too much food in their mouth.

Moving from the respiratory tract, I am pretty experienced with cuts and other types of wounds. I played football all my life so I know how to deal with kids' regular wounds with small bleeding. In addition, since 2007 I have taken anticoagulants, so I am used to dealing with a lot of bleeding as well, especially with cuts. Once I was opening oysters with a knife and I stabbed my hand palm, it didn't go through the other side but it was quite deep. I made a compress in the first hours, and I used a gauze and adhesive tape after that. It took almost two days to stop completely to bleed, since with some hand movements it returned to bleed a bit.

The most that I know about some basic first aid, I still would need medical advice in some cases. My little one was jumping in our backyard trampoline with my oldest, and she hurt her leg. The problem of 3-year-old children is that they don't know how to say where in the leg. Inspecting by visuals it was hard to detect where was the problem and she couldn't stop well on the floor. The first thing that we did was to put ice on all her leg extensions, but we had to go to the hospital. The doctor prescribed an x-ray and there wasn't anything serious, but something was appearing in her knee, which could be a hematoma.

The doctor suggested some rest in the next days but we would need to go back if she didn't get better. Well in a couple of days she was running again, so it was really probably a torsion in her knee. Medical attention is really necessary when things are a bit uncontrolled or difficult to understand how to help. First aid is very important for you, but it is much more important when we are dealing with small kids. It is important to read a lot about it and probably do some courses that are available in your community.

Kids really need special attention
Kudos to you for what you did though

elas estao sempre aprontando kkkk

Being very vigilant with the kids is very necessary as they can't speak for themselves well enough yet.
You are doing a great job at the various aspects you mentioned to ensure their health safety, really impressive.

I am trying my best and for luck nothing very severe for now! hehhe

Anticoagulants suck, they keep you alive but bleeding and bruises are really bad... I too take them! I'm glad you're daughter was OK!

Dont tell me man, once i was playing soccer and i got hit in my shin … i got a big bruise and my foot got inflated for a week lol

Parents as well as any person should be prepared to act appropriately in an emergency situation, in the case of parents, it is even more important to have knowledge of first aid, since they are directly responsible for the safety and well-being of their children. Accidents in the home are common, therefore, being prepared to act in case of an emergency is paramount to ensure the health and safety of the whole family.

Yes we adults also are prone to suffer a health problem!
