Some days ago I commented in a post about how important the environment that I work in is to keep myself there. At my former work, I was unhappy with my salary and had no perspective of the future despite of false promises. I had some good benefits, such as a good vacation days amount and also some freedom to get leave for personal appointments. After three years there I had almost 30 vacation days a year. My new job has different benefits which are interesting. I believe that these benefits contribute to staying in work and can help to deal with other cons that you have there most of the time.
My current job since the beginning gave me the expectations. I enjoy that compared to the previous work, since the start my supervisor gave me the rules and these are the rules. My contract length is X years, and after that, he didn't guarantee me what was going to happen. Promotions aren't included, to get a better position I need to compete for an opening. No false promises. Another benefit is that he is my only supervisor and I can't obey any other person that appears around, which was also another difficulty in my previous job. But let's go with the good benefits.
My salary isn't the best, but at least it is guaranteed a small raise every year, which gives us some relief. In addition, they pay for our complementary health plan. Canada has a universal health public plan, but it doesn't cover dental and eye health for example. So a complimentary health plan is needed to help cover these costs (dentists are very expensive here), in addition to massage therapy and prescription medicines. Also, they have a nice pension plan in which my employer pays half and I pay the other half (that I had also in my previous work). Vacation days aren't as good as the other job, but still I have some leaves for specific appointments, such as kids' school and medical appointments for family members.
From all the benefits cited I think the one that I most enjoy is the constant salary raise in addition to once in while salary revision. The salary progression is already included, but once in a while, my position also gets revised between my employer and the Union. Currently, they are close to an agreement for a better payment, if that happens, my salary will bump a bit. But for sure if all of these get scrapped it would be a nice point to weigh and seek other jobs. In addition, if they remove the complementary health plan I would also revise my stay in this job, since I would need to pay from my pocket which will reduce my monthly income. Vacations and leaves also are important, I would complain a bit if they get reduced for sure, but I would consider leaving only if they also get erased from my job, but I guess no one would stay in a job without vacations right?
All jobs need to offer benefits, only paying the regular salary to pay our monthly bills isn't enough to attach us. That is why jobs without benefits people just go there when they are in need of money, and they leave these jobs as soon as they get a better job with a better salary with benefits. I know friends that went through tough jobs with no benefits and they were looking every day for new jobs. Employers that don't offer benefits need to rely on a big rotation of personnel every month.
Alguns dias atrás, comentei em um post sobre como é importante o ambiente em que trabalho para me manter lá. No meu trabalho anterior, eu estava insatisfeito com meu salário e não tinha perspectiva de futuro, apesar das falsas promessas. Eu tinha alguns bons benefícios, como uma boa quantidade de dias de férias e também alguma liberdade para sair para compromissos pessoais. Após três anos lá, eu tinha quase 30 dias de férias por ano. Meu novo trabalho tem benefícios diferentes que são interessantes. Acredito que esses benefícios contribuem para a permanência no trabalho e podem ajudar a lidar com outros contras que você tem lá na maior parte do tempo.
Meu trabalho atual desde o início me deu as expectativas. Gosto disso em comparação com o trabalho anterior, desde o início meu supervisor me deu as regras e estas são as regras. Meu contrato tem duração de X anos, e depois disso, ele não me garantiu o que iria acontecer. Promoções não estão incluídas, para conseguir uma posição melhor preciso competir por uma vaga. Sem falsas promessas. Outro benefício é que ele é meu único supervisor e não posso obedecer a qualquer outra pessoa que apareça, o que também era outra dificuldade no meu trabalho anterior. Mas vamos aos bons benefícios.
Meu salário não é o melhor, mas pelo menos está garantido um pequeno aumento todos os anos, o que nos dá algum alívio. Além disso, eles pagam nosso plano de saúde complementar. O Canadá tem um plano de saúde público universal, mas não cobre saúde dental e ocular, por exemplo. Então, um plano de saúde complementar é necessário para ajudar a cobrir esses custos (dentistas são muito caros aqui), além de terapia de massagem e medicamentos prescritos. Além disso, eles têm um bom plano de aposentadoria em que meu empregador paga metade e eu pago a outra metade (o que eu também tinha no meu trabalho anterior). Os dias de férias não são tão bons quanto no outro trabalho, mas ainda tenho algumas folgas para compromissos específicos, como a escola dos filhos e consultas médicas para membros da família.
De todos os benefícios citados, acho que o que mais gosto é o aumento constante do salário, além da revisão salarial de vez em quando. A progressão salarial já está incluída, mas de vez em quando minha posição também é revisada entre meu empregador e o sindicato. Atualmente, eles estão perto de um acordo para um pagamento melhor, se isso acontecer, meu salário vai aumentar um pouco. Mas com certeza, se tudo isso for descartado, seria um bom ponto para pesar e buscar outros empregos. Além disso, se eles removerem o plano de saúde complementar, eu também revisaria minha permanência neste trabalho, pois precisaria pagar do meu bolso, o que reduziria minha renda mensal. Férias e licenças também são importantes, eu reclamaria um pouco se fossem reduzidas, com certeza, mas consideraria sair apenas se fossem completamente eliminadas do meu trabalho, mas acho que ninguém ficaria em um trabalho sem férias, certo?
Todos os empregos precisam oferecer benefícios, apenas pagar o salário regular para pagar nossas contas mensais não é suficiente para nos manter. É por isso que trabalhos sem benefícios as pessoas vão apenas quando precisam de dinheiro, e deixam esses empregos assim que conseguem um emprego melhor com um salário melhor e benefícios. Conheço amigos que passaram por trabalhos difíceis sem benefícios e procuravam novos empregos todos os dias. Empregadores que não oferecem benefícios precisam contar com uma grande rotatividade de pessoal todos os meses.
