A High School Reflection from the Philippines

As I meander through the labyrinth of memories from my high school days in the vibrant archipelago of the Philippines, spanning the years 1996 to 2011, I'm struck by the stark contrasts and subtle symmetries between the world that cradled my teenage dreams and the digital playground that hosts today's youth.

It was an era marked less by the glow of smartphones and more by the shared laughter and whispered secrets between the pages of dog-eared textbooks.

The Analog Charm and Digital Dawn

Back then, the hum of computers was a symphony reserved for special occasions. The computer shop was our portal to a burgeoning digital world, a place of discovery bounded by the number of coins in our pockets.

Today, technology is an ever-present companion, with knowledge resting at the fingertips of every student. The transformation is profound, echoing the words penned in Daniel 12:9-10, "knowledge shall increase." This biblical verse beautifully encapsulates the exponential growth in accessibility to information, a prophecy fulfilled in the palm of our hands.

From Chalk Dust to Digital Footprints

The dynamic between teachers and students, once a dance of respect and authority mediated by physical presence, has evolved into a more collaborative venture.

The digital age has democratized knowledge, allowing students to verify and expand upon the pearls of wisdom offered by their mentors.

A Tapestry of Learning

The evolution of learning materials from tangible textbooks to digital resources is akin to swapping a lantern for a spotlight. Where once we navigated the waters of knowledge with the gentle guidance of printed maps, today's learners sail swiftly, guided by the GPS of search engines and online databases.

Extracurricular Evolution

The realm of extracurricular activities has expanded, breaking the physical boundaries that once defined it. The digital age has introduced a multitude of new platforms for expression, learning, and growth, making the pursuit of passions and hobbies a more accessible and diverse adventure.

Assessing Minds: Then and Now

While the essence of assessment remains to gauge understanding, the tools and techniques have embraced the digital revolution. The shift towards more interactive and tech-integrated evaluation methods mirrors the broader educational transformation.

Social Tapestry Rewoven

The social fabric of student life, once tightly knit within school walls and handwritten notes, now extends into the vast and intricate web of social media. This digital extension has reshaped interactions, forging connections that span global dimensions yet often sacrificing depth for breadth.

A Personal Glimpse into the Past

I recall the days when research meant a pilgrimage to the library, where every book held a potential answer, a hidden gem. The quest for knowledge was not just a click away but an adventure, a journey that often led to unexpected discoveries and lifelong memories.

In reflection, the words of Daniel resonate with even greater significance, as the prophecy of increased knowledge finds its manifestation in our daily lives. The challenge and opportunity lie in harnessing this vast expanse of information for growth, learning, and connection, ensuring that the heart of education remains the illumination of minds and spirits.

As we navigate the evolving landscape of education, let us cherish the lessons of the past while embracing the tools of the future, weaving together a tapestry of learning that honors the journey of discovery, in all its forms.

This is my participation on topic of Hive Learners called Schooling Back Then

Tell us one thing that was good about being a student back in the day that is no longer so currently. And then, tell us one thing that was bad about being a student back in the day but students now enjoy it currently. What can you suggest be done about this disparities?

Who am I?

My name is Hiro a loving husband, a Hiver since 2017, a world explorer, a Hive marketer, a cat lover, and a proud Christian of the MCGI.

I discovered Hive back in 2017 when I was doing my research. My goal on Hive is I want to use the stake power up to be able to help the community. I prayed to God to help me to be able to become a cheerful giver to anyone who is lacking like food, medicine, and livelihood. Hope you can follow my journey

There are some part of the world which their school didn't have access to high standard of education
