There were so many memorable events in this year for me and every time I think about them, I just can’t help but be grateful. My year started off quite well, I remember few days into the month of January was when I received my long awaited admission into school and that was a very joyous day for me. I was so happy that I kept calling everyone I could remember to share the goodnews with them. My elder sister also got posted for her NYSC service this same year and I also, the next month, which is February, my favorite foster sister also got married too.
I have all the reason to be grateful and happy about this year because a lot of new and good things happened to me. This year was also the first year I got a gift for myself! I mean, I have always wished I’d do that for myself and this year was when my wish came to reality. But in all of these, there is one particular event that happened in my life that I would like to share with us and that was an event of how I became closer to someone. I’m sharing this because, I believe one of the greatest gifts is a gift of friendship.
It all started one day, while I was with my sister at the hospital, I received a call from someone that has never called before even though we both have our numbers. I was a bit surprised and confused too because I he wasn’t someone I talk to often and I felt even if he has anything to say, texting would have been a lot better. Well, I picked up the call and we talked. And after that call, it was as if something happened that I can’t even explain. This happened in the month of March and ever since then, we have been really good friends.
The truth is, I never saw us becoming friends. I even doubt the fact that I’d be friends with him today if he didn’t call me the way he did. I mean, we have chatted a few times but it was strictly by the book. Maybe to ask a question or give a guidance or just random chats that barely lasted for two minutes and that’s it. But now, I don’t think there is ever a day that goes by when we don’t talk, except on days when I’m mad at him about something and he just wants to let me be, hehe.
I have friends and I can hardly ever remember how I met most of them but I do remember how I met this particular friend because it seemed like everything just happened in a perfect way. This friendship like every other friendships, have had its ups and downs. I remember at some point we both just wanted to give up but somehow, we overcame all the odds coming from different angles. It was as if they knew I have found a good friend and someone somewhere is not happy about it, hence the continuous struggle to keep our friendship intact.
A lot of things has improved in my life since I met this friend of mine. Even though there were challenges, the fact that I have someone who is not a family member do talk about things with, made me happy. Despite our personal differences, my friend would most times have to compromise just to see that we are good and I try my best too sometimes but I know he deserves the credit more.
During my first exams as an undergraduate, I remembered how much he supported me. He always tried his best to see that I’m studying enough so I don’t have any cause for alarm when my exams come. Thanks to his encouragement and advice accompanying the ones from others, I try my best to study almost daily which is something I don’t usually do. Thanks to him too, I have been privileged to learn some new things about myself and I have likewise improved and I’m improving in those areas.
These and many others, are some of the unforgettable things that happened to me in the year 2024. And even as we move into a new year, I have high expectations of the things God has in store for us and I hope I get the opportunity to keep sharing the testimonies of God’s goodness in my life.
