For someone who loves and appreciates a peaceful and tranquil place, I mostly enjoyed living in rural areas as a young girl but then I appreciated it more because I haven’t really experienced so much living outside that space. My mum left and my dad struggled with a few things so we had to go stay with my grandma in the village and we lived with her for quite some time. Then I didn’t have any problems with staying there because I didn’t even have so much knowledge about the internet and everything else I might be missing out on. At that point, I loved living anywhere as long as I was with my siblings.
Fast forward to today, in as much as I have fallen in love with a quiet and peaceful space, I won’t be able to live in a rural environment except there is water, good network connection and electricity. For the other basic amenities, I might be able to cope with them a little if these other three things are available. I’m a student and I work online, living in a place without good network connection and little or no electricity means I’d be missing out on so many opportunities. Now, my need for a good network connection, water and electricity surpasses that of my need for a quiet and peaceful space.
And, it’s not as if I can’t get a quiet place in an urban area but I’m definitely going to put in more effort to get that unlike in a rural area. Basically, I’d say the rural area is mostly for those people who don’t really know how life outside that space is and also for those who have tasted the urban life and feel they can’t cope with it any longer due to some experiences they’ve had. I have been privileged to live in both an urban area and also a rural area, for what it was worth, I enjoyed living in both places the time I did.
Right now, I’m living in an urban-rural area and there is just a bit of everything which is way better than staying in a complete rural area. No doubts, staying in a rural area, you get to live on little cost as you don’t get to buy or spend money for everything you need unlike in an urban area. Living in a rural area, most times you don’t mind walking down to any place you want to be because most times you don’t even see the need for it and due to some undeveloped roads, there are not so many vehicles to take you to some distances and this in turn helps you spend less.
Also, one other advantage of living in a rural area is that you have closer access to food cheaper and unadulterated. You most times get to eat good and healthy meals with little or no money. But this is not the same for an urban area as you’d have to spend so much to get a decent and healthy meal. But then, despite these advantages of living in a rural area, I still prefer living in an urban area because I get more opportunity to improve on myself. Yes, things are on the high side here but then that’s how it should be because this was once a rural area that has taken so much time and effort to improve itself.
In a good urban area, you get access to as many basic amenities and services as you’d want and can afford. And as an individual, you also get more opportunities to make more income for yourself to most times sustain that lifestyle, so for me, I’d say it’s a win win living in an urban area. And if the city is so in-conducive for you, you can as well take some time out by visiting a rural environment for a while to regain yourself. But then, for me, I’d love most of my life to be lived in an urban area and less in a rural area.
So what will it be for you? Would you prefer to live most of your life or all of your life in a rural or urban environment? Feel free to live your comment below.
