Self-medication shouldn't be appreciated

Everyone knows it well that health is wealth, and everyone wants to be healthy, although everyone is not ready to work to keep themselves healthy. Sometimes we can see even if we take care of ourselves properly and we need medicine to recover, and that's normal.

In recent times, people seem very smart, and they have knowledge a little through the help of technology. We can easily search about a medicine online and figure out the details of a medicine. I think it's good to know more about medicine, but there is a risk of applying it in any case because I need to keep it in mind that we are not experts in that field and we don't know how many doses we need to take for our health recovery. That's the problem of the current generation of people because some people think they are experts in every field, which is not right. Let's talk a little about our senior people. Although they don't trouble themselves to know more about medicine, they have the belief that a single medicine can be applicable for all similar cases. I have seen many people who suggest others take the same medicine that worked for them. The health condition of everyone is not the same, and the same doses of medicine are not applicable to others. Applying the medicine to others can be risky even if the symptoms of the disease remain the same.

Does it mean self-medication is bad? If someone asks my opinion, then I must say that it's a bad practice mostly. But it has an advantage within a limit. Every time our illness is not serious. Fever, cough, and similar types of diseases are very natural. As well as I know who doesn't need to take high doses for those diseases. For those cases, I think self-medication can be effective, and it can help us to save some money. I never encourage anyone to do self-medication when the case becomes sensitive, and without any kind of confirmation, self-medication can be life-threatening. In my case, I really get sick, and for headaches or pain, I don't take any kind of medicine because I love to recover naturally, and only in cases of fever do I take some normal medicine. If I became seriously ill, then I must go to the doctor for a consultation, and there is no doubt about it. My parents and grandmother also do self-medication, but till now nothing bad has happened to it, and it's about a serious issue. I never allowed them to do self-medication. I can understand the risk, and my siblings also play a great role in it. But I can share an incident that happened with one of my relatives. The incident was very simple but paid a huge price for it. I can't remember clearly about the incident because I was a kid in the time but I can remember what happened.

One of my relatives were pregnant and she was facing some pain in her body. Rather than make constant with a doctor she asked about some kind of pain killers or similar type medicine from another relatives. She has taken the medicine and after few hours her body condition became worse and she was hospitalized immediately. Unfortunately the situation was so bad that she lost her baby and she also faced major injury for what she needed to stay in hospital for 20 days. I don't know what kind of medicine she has taken but it cost a life and additionally the expenses of hospital was not less either.

I know I don't know everything in details about the incident but I can clearly say that it was happened because of self-medication and taking the wrong medicine.

I know self medication is not deathly or life threatening every time but we need to keep it in mind that danger comes sometimes and one time is enough to give us the suffering for whole life. Do you think it's necessary unless it's a minor case.

It is okay to do self-medication for minor illnesses but it's still best to seek professional help to be safer. Sorry to hear about your relative. Hope she's doing better now.

The problem is that we think of ourselves as experts.
She is fine but still, she regrets it and she needs to face some criticism from others for it also. For a time mistake, she is still paying the price.

many of us are guilty of self-medication, for me I find going to the hospital expensive, i rather visit the pharmacy

Hmm. We should need to understand the risk of it. The danger comes sometimes and I am sure no one wants to suffer their whole life for a single time mistake. it's better to stay on the safe side even if it costs us more.

One of the problem about this self medication is that once it works, it is referred to friends, neighbours and family. It is very important that pregnant women or breast feeding mothers shoulf be conscious of the kind of drugs they take. Seversl drugs carry instructions that say not for pregnant women

Yes, the time of conceiving, is a sensitive stage, and taking anything without a doctor's consultant is very risky and we need to be careful about it otherwise anything can happen.

Oh my goodness 🤭🤭... imagine the woman losing her life for this self medication issues.. being sensitive while self medicating is very vital to avoid stories like this

I have seen many people who suggest others take the same medicine that worked for them.

It's very very common and we forgot that everyone's body system react differently

I hope we become intentional with our health

This is so true,
Our bodies are different, whatever works for you, might not work for me

Do you think women can forget about the incident at any time in their life? Never and still she regret the decision. From one perspective it was a silly mistake but the family paid the huge price for it.
Health-related issues should not be underestimated.
