Hello Hive foodies! I hope your weekend is going well and that you are enjoying a variety of delicious dishes at home. This post is related to the Sunday Creative Contest by #HiveLearners. Today, I'm going to try making Chicken Karela / Chicken Bitter Gourd. This will be my first attempt. Many people make mutton or beef karela, but I find the taste of chicken karela to be much better. Bitter gourd is indeed a fantastic vegetable for this season, and this recipe is made in countries all around the world. Its original origin is Indo-Pak.
So let's start the recipe!
Ingredients:
- 400 gm Chicken
- Half kg bitter gourd
- 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
- 3 green chili
- 1 large size onion
- 2 large size tomatoes
- 1 Teaspoon dry coriander
- 1 Teaspoon black pepper
- 1 Teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 Teaspoon cumin seed
- 1 Lemon
- Dry spices
- salt as per taste
How to make Chicken Karela:
- Cut the bitter gourd and remove the seeds.
- Sprinkle salt on the bitter gourd slices and let them sit for about 30 minutes. This helps reduce the bitterness. Remember, apart from this, no salt will be added to this dish.
Cut tomatoes and onions into slices, and make a paste of ginger, garlic, and green chilies.
Prepare all the dry spices and other spices ( turmeric powder, red chili powder, black pepper, salt ) etc.
Wash the chicken thoroughly to ensure that no blood spots remain.
Put chicken, sliced onions, and tomatoes in a pan and cook for a while in their own water and then cover it.
Now add all the spices to it so that their flavor mixes well with the chicken.
- Now add the chili and ginger-garlic paste that was prepared earlier. You can also add yogurt to it, but I didn't add it in this recipe.
- Cover it and let it cook for about 10 minutes on high flame.
- Once you see that all the vegetables and chicken have dried up and formed a gravy, turned off the flame.
Wash the bitter gourds to remove the excess salt.
After this, take some oil in an other pan and fry the washed bitter gourd slices in it until they are well fried.
Take out the fried bitter gourd separately on a plate.
Afterward, add the fried bitter gourd into the chicken gravy and let it cook for a while.
Cover it and let it cook for 3 minutes, then turn off the flame.
You'll start to smell the aroma of this dish soon.
Your delicious Chicken Karela is ready! Serve it in a plate.
Serve it with fresh salad, bread and mint yogurt.
