In the Hive Learners weekly featured content, we were asked to talk about one thing that was really easy for us to learn compared to others; cooking was the first thing I thought of. Why do you think I chose that skill?
Before now, I have been a regular visitor in the Hive food community and I enjoyed posting content about the dishes I prepare.
It might seem funny that I picked cooking since I don't actually cook that much myself anymore. However, cooking has always been one skill that has always come naturally to me in a way that other skills don't.
From when I was a still younger, I was always fascinated by watching my mom and aunts in the kitchen. The way they could chop veggies fast with skill, how they mixed spices to make foods taste amazing - it all just made sense to my young mind. I didn't have to try hard at all, the cooking ways seemed to stick in my memory.
Once I started making simple dishes as a teenager, it flowed smoothly. All that watching in the kitchen paid off. I could easily recreate the things I'd seen my family do over and over. My mom was surprised at how well I blended spices, sometimes even better than aunts who cooked for years.
As I got older and tried harder recipes from around the world, I found I could pick them up with ease. Whether baking breads, seasoning meats, or making a salad with many ingredients - I breezed through the steps. Friends wondered how I could remember all the detailed instructions and cook times so easily.
I think cooking just comes naturally to my brain. While I've really struggled with other skills like advanced math, music, or coding, cooking has always been simple. Maybe it's because I was around it as a kid. Maybe I have a logic mind that can break recipes into clear steps. Or maybe I just have a deep respect for the art of cooking that keeps me learning more.
No matter the reasons, there's no doubt cooking abilities come easier to me than most other things in life. It's funny how we each have those areas that just click for us, while others are harder no matter how much we practice. For my friends, maybe it was music, art, or science that made more natural sense. For me, it was definitely mastering the kitchen.
So if you ever need a friend to cook for an event, make a feast, or have a baking competition, I'm your gal! Just give me the kitchen tools and fresh ingredients. Keeping family recipes alive or creating new innovative dishes? Easy peasy for this natural-born chef! You've been warned - I don't go easy when it comes to cooking battles.
Nowadays, I don't need to prepare food in my house anymore. Someone else has taken over the cooking duties. I'm happy to let them handle the kitchen work, I know I can always go to the kitchen and whip something up when I want to.
