The world we live in today is advanced that distance or location is no longer a barrier to quality information or effective communication.
Nowadays, we can talk to anyone anywhere at our fingertips. Big thanks to social media.
Social media is the game-changer. It eliminates the distance/locality barrier between information/communication and people.
Not only that, it turns the world completely into an open glass house.
With social media, we are more engaged and aware of the everyday lives of our loved ones. Just as if they carried us everywhere we go, we become more connected, communicate with them easily, and receive the spot feedback on real-life events of interest... ##What a luxury!
Nevertheless, as social media readily connect us so also it can become our pitfalls. Different research and real-life happenings have shown that social media has caused more harm than good to relationships. The same thing it tends to bridge.
With social platforms, our thoughts, ideas, and decisions are no longer personal or limited but worldwide. Deciding to share these thoughts and ideas on our social platforms can cause negative feelings as our loved ones can be upset by what they see or what we choose to share online.
With social media we can connect and build quick relationships with people all around the world some of whom we may never meet in real life and these relationships can be overhyped and prioritise which may result in us alienating the real people we deal with in our everyday lives in pursue of maintaining our friends online.
Another bad effect of social media is the influence it can have on our attitudes and reactions towards our loved ones. The social space is filled with all sorts of ill-mannered and rude responses which may cause problems in dealing with our offline relationships. Some persons become so rude and savage that they may in reality damage their way of interacting with people truly.
Social media can also have a bad effect on our confidence and ego. With the way wealth is displayed nowadays on social media and so much information about how some people live their lives, especially on 'Instagram', one can easily feel that the success he's achieved is diminished thereby amplifying his failures which may lead to low self-esteem.
Sometimes there's this pressure to demonstrate a kind of social facade to impress and build some nice image about us since people are taking not every action we take.
On a final note, social media is the best tool to effectively build a solid relationship through effective communication but must be watched. Maintain a balance between real life and social life, be mindful of what content you read and be mindful of the urge to compare yourself with another online personality. Do this for your safety and sanity.
