"The educational system must evolve to incorporate technological advancements while fostering independent thinking and problem-solving abilities."
This is a publication based on the suggested topic proposed in the Hive Learners community through their discord, which on this occasion is "No Phones Allowed".
Welcome to my blog, dear and esteemed readers and followers. Today's topic is about whether smartphones should be allowed to be used in schools by students. That is, we all know that for a long time now, smartphones have been a great advancement that has helped us improve the speed and efficiency with which we communicate and learn about things. Nowadays, everything is globalized, and through the internet, we can access any information in a matter of seconds. Quickly, using any search engine, we find what we need. Similarly, we can access news, communicate with our relatives in different parts of the world, which makes the speed at which information travels help us precisely to have knowledge of any area very easily. It is evident that today students can be easily distracted using their phones in their classrooms because they can watch videos. They have a wide variety of online games that will distract them from classes, or they can simply chat with the girl or boy they like through their phones. So this can be a means of distraction. And not to mention artificial intelligences. A young person or a child can be in a class, the teacher asks them a question, and this young person, without even needing to type it on their phone, can simply, via a voice command, tell the artificial intelligence to search for the information and give the answer to the question the teacher asked. And in an earphone in their ear, the young person will have the answer immediately. What the teacher is asking then would be a setback because the young person or child would not be using their critical thinking or their ability to search and think to perform or be a good professional in the subject they are studying. In this sense, I believe that, as I have said to other colleagues in other publications I have commented on regarding this topic, it is important that there is regulation or a norm regarding the use of smartphones in educational institutions and the use of artificial intelligences also in educational institutions. I believe that the focus that should be given to all this is rooted in the change or reform of the way each child and each young person is educated in each school grade, from infants to adults who are doing postgraduate or specialization studies in their careers, because the focus, I believe, should adapt to the new times we are living in, and education cannot be the same as it was years ago when there were no smartphones. So I think the educational system should be reformed to include these tools with a norm and an intelligent way of using them so that people continue thinking and having the possibility of critical thinking, which is very important, and not losing that skill and not depending or being dependent on artificial intelligences or technology to do their tasks. That is very important because, for example, if we have a professional or an architect who solely depends on artificial intelligence to make their architectural plans, what would happen if one day there is a global debacle or for any reason we no longer have access to artificial intelligences?. What would happen to all those architects and engineers who have now solely depended on artificial intelligences to do the calculations or draw the plans?. We could not then build more houses or build more machines or inventions because the engineers would not know how to do it, they would have forgotten how to do those tasks. So I think it is important to use artificial intelligence as an enhancer of these things and to use smartphones as tools that will help us quickly access the information we need so that students can complete their studies more quickly. Because if they have faster access to the information, they can complete their studies and professions more quickly, which means we would have a greater number of professionals, engineers, doctors, and lawyers for the planet to solve and help in different areas. Then we would have more prepared people who would, in turn, allow us to evolve and take the next evolutionary step as a species. So I think that if the educational system is not reformed to include smartphones and artificial intelligences, things will get worse in the short term. It is necessary that globally these regulations that should be applied for smartphones are studied and I do not believe that the use of smartphones in classrooms should be avoided but rather the opposite. The use of smartphones should be integrated into classrooms and be elements that help and contribute to studies, as they are precisely designed to facilitate things for us, and we should learn to use them properly, not for them to do things for us, but to help us achieve better results and that we continue having that identity and the capacity for critical thinking and continue doing things by our own means in case we do not have that tool. So I believe this is something very important and I think our future as a race and as a species should go in that direction. Thumbnail image maded using Bing AI and edited with Canva.com
