The Butterfly Effect: Changing The Past, Shaping The Future

in #hive-1538506 days ago

I'm not so knowledgeable with my country's history but there are just some historical events that only a few have not been taught or heard of, as they did not only mark important happenings in the country but also led to changes that we see till today.

I can still remember how excited I was when we were being taught some things about the beginning of my country, how it all started and how it has been going. That was like many years ago during my time in secondary school, I'm less interested now.

As far as to how we got the name Nigeria, the colonization and the first president, I knew that much but I've been thinking back in time using what I know... Where did it all go wrong? Where do I want to change in yesterday for today's Nigeria to be better?

It's one of my fear that from now on, we'd have more things to be worried about as Nigerians than we even did in the past, things keeps getting worse than better and it's no surprise that this has been gradually showing signs from a very long time ago.

Time to come, the next generations may not have anything good to know or retell about our country's history. At least, we've had great citizens and leaders in the past but it ends there, there have been no recent great happenings that have favoured the citizens or the country in anyway.

Going back in time, I'll choose to go back to when Nigeria was yet to be under the colonization of the British people. A time I think better decisions would have been made and by people with good heart to avoid being colonized in the wrong way.

I wasn't there before colonization and I also don't have much knowledge of how it really was before colonization but I wish I'd have the power to turn things around by convincing the colonizers to do better in how they did their things back then.

The slavery, taking ownership of things that belonged to us and making us feel even more dependent after freedom from colonization. There could have been a better way to go around the whole thing. I don't know but if there is a better way, I'd choose that over all that has happened.

Of course, the colonization didn't only come with the bad sides, there were good things and knowledge they brought to us as well so maybe my decision to go back to that time may not be in our favour as regards to what we gained from the British people.

There is always going to be the butterfly effect to anything that's got to do with changing the past in hopes of making things the future right. Am I willing to take the chances? Yes, I still think Nigeria would be better than what it is today if some bad decisions in the past were not taken.

The actions of our colonial masters should definitely be brought to question, some of the things they did in those was unwarranted but then when you think about some of the tactics they used to overcome us, one of it was indirect rule, which means it was also some of our leaders known as warrant chiefs that round up most of their people to be sold into slavery in order to make Profit in the trans-sahara slave trade.

I was so shocked and annoyed at the same time when I learnt about those days and why the slave trade then 🥲

Historically, before colonization Nigeria was not any better. Read about the Benin empire and how they were conquering various kingdoms. We all know that after war, the vanquished are usually taken as slaves. So my dear our problem dun tay o.

Lol my dear, e don really tay
God help us

Amen o!

😂🤣 Nna ehh the problems no be today oooo

The matter long I tell you 😂

It is a difficult decision, because perhaps if they had not been colonized, the country would be very different today, we will never know. I understand perfectly that enslaving anyone is an inhumane act, everyone has the right to their freedom. I would have liked it to be the Nigerians who enslaved the settlers, it would be interesting to see where the country would go if that could happen. 😂

Lol interesting you say? Maybe but I wouldn't have liked being one of them then lol.

Who knows, maybe due to the absurdities of life, your position in time changes, and it is up to you to be one of them. 😂
