I was able to gather the following information with the help of @gone-hive after understanding the tutorial on keys.
INTRODUCTION TO THE SECURITY KEYS OF HIVE
Security is an essential component of all institutions, social media platforms, centralized and decentralized platforms, especially in this day and age when sensitive information and assets can be stolen from anyone with a single click. Establishing a secure method of storing and protecting data is critical. As a result, the same security measures are available on Hive as well. They are referred to as the HIVE KEYS.
IMPORTANCE OF THE HIVE KEYS
The significance of hive keys cannot be overstated because we all know what will happen to our accounts if they are not properly secured, which is what the hive key does for us. The hive's keys are a mix of letters and numbers. The user owns the keys and has the authority to use them as needed, but keeping the keys secure is of the utmost importance.
HOW TO LOCATE THE SECURITY KEYS ON HIVE
I used the following steps in locating the keys:
STEP ONE
SIGN IN TO YOUR ACCOUNT, TAP ON PROFILE THEN CLICK ON WALLET
STEP TWO
TAP ON KEYS AND PERMISSIONS ON THE WALLET PAGE.
STEP THREE
TO SEE THE RESPECTIVE KEYS, TAP ON REVEAL THEN COPY THEM TO A SAFE PLACE
FUNCTIONS OF THE RESPECTIVE KEYS
It is critical that we understand what the keys represent and how they can be used to gain access to critical information on our accounts. The functions of the security keys that the hive Blockchain provides to all of its users are listed below.
The Posting key is the most common key type, and it is used for posting, voting, and commenting. Using the "Posting" Key/Password, users can create posts and comments on their hive user profile while upvoting and following other relevant users.
The Active key is the second type of key, and it is used for money/currency transactions. Except for upgrading the Owner Key, the Active Key has access to the account in the same way that the Owner Key does.
The Owner Key is the most powerful key type. Because it gives you entire control over your hive account, this is the most important Permission key. You have the ability to change almost every aspect of your account.
Memo Key: Only the memo key is used for Private Messaging, and it's used to encrypt and decrypt private messages sent and received through your hive account. This key, which was previously useful for reading and writing memos, is now mostly useless and can be ignored.
MEASURES OF PROTECTION.
The following will help you protect your hive keys;
Being discreet with your hive keys, ensure you keep them in a secret place that only you has access to. Never share them with anyone.
Avoid posting on any link at all without verifying first. Your keys are only needed for logging and executing transactions; otherwise, they will remain private.
Your keys can be protected or stored both manually and electronically. Manually, you can get them written down in your private jotters and books that only you have access to and electronically, it can be saved on your email, stored on your Google drive or can also be stored on a hardware.
Thank you for being a part of my gathering sessions, and thanks to @gone-hive for the security explanations. I hope this lesson would help you in accessing your hive keys and storing them safely.
