I am usually not enthralled by the idea of having to meet with a celebrity or public figure because I do not consider them to be any different from the other humans I meet in my day-to-day life, but if there is someone (still living) I’d be very excited to meet, it has to be Marshall Mathers.
For those who do not know, Marshall Mathers (a.k.a Eminem) is an American songwriter and is also the greatest rapper alive. His work in the rap and the hip-hop industry has spanned decades. In a field known to be dominated by black artistes, he has managed to thrive and make a name for himself. Some of his popular works are Stan, Rap God, and Lose Yourself
When it comes to music, I believe I have a very fine and refined taste. I particularly enjoy listening to music genres like Jazz, Fuji, Soul, and classical music and some of my favorite artistes include Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Seal, James Brown, and many others. I recently developed an interest in rap music and it’s all thanks to the Real Slim Shady and his brilliant way of expressing himself through his works.
His journey as an artiste that enjoyed early fame and had to grow up in the public glare is quite interesting, and that’s one thing I think helped shaped his career to what it is today.
He has grown from an angry irrational young man to a “still angry” but rational father who has now realized his mistakes as a youth. It’s amazing how he managed to deal with all the crisis he faced throughout his career and how he bounced back to still remain relevant in the industry till this day.
As a creative myself, I am intrigued by his genius and If I have the opportunity to go on a dinner date with him, I’d like to know and learn about his creative process. How he manages to channel his pain to create beautiful works of art that are enjoyed by millions across the world.
Eminem is a great artiste with a lot of flaws, but I believe there are quite a lot of things to learn from him if you look close enough.
