Investing in Your Health: The Benefits of Checkups

in #hive-153850yesterday

In the part of the world where I come from, we mostly only go to the hospital when we are sick and even with that, it would have to be every extreme. Being an African, going to the hospital would and always does require a severe situation to push us to do that. Aside this, we are always good to go about our activities on any normal day.

Another thing we are known for around here is self diagnosis and drug prescription. Growing up, my grandpa always came home from work with different drugs for different individuals in the family having different problems. It was more like he was the family doctor but with no doctorate. Funny enough, we also took the drugs, hoping that they would work for us and most at times, they did. Or maybe it was just the placebo effect working on us. Now, it’s no more my grandpa who does this, it’s my dad.😂

As humans, we need to make sure we are healthy both physically and mentally and checking our health is very important. Sometimes we may look okay but we actually aren’t. I watched a video where someone said that looking fit doesn’t mean you’re healthy and that’s true. It’s best to know you’re healthy rather than just looking or thinking you’re fit with no evidence or data to back the fact that you’re healthy.

This year, one of my goals was to pay more attention to my overall health because I didn’t do much of that last year. I haven’t gone for a general medical checkup yet this year but what I have done is to go for specific check up’s. Just last Friday, I was at the ophthalmologist to check my eye. This is something I had been postponing for so long but I finally decided to stop procrastinating and get them checked.

I had been feeling pains in my eyes for some months now and that’s probably because I stopped wearing my prescribed lens. Upon arrival, I was able to run some tests because I felt I needed a different type of lens (self diagnosis again) and it turned out to be true. After that discovery, I was made to run more tests and eventually I went in for lens testing.

Funny enough, most , if not all the lenses being tested on me looked funny but I was able to get one which wasn’t as funny as the others (ie)more elevated and fuzzy. At that instance, there was pressure at the center and so I was advised by the doctor to come back next week so that they can have ample time to allow me get the appropriate glasses for my eye. Today, I’m having second thoughts about going back there but I know and hope that when the day comes, my discipline traits would kick in and I’d be on my way.

In the coming months , I hope to visit the hospital more for checkups to ensure that I am healthy. Also, I’m making sure to take good care of myself by eating well, exercising, staying hydrated and also getting enough rest. With these, I envision a year with good health and productivity.

I actually love all these your pictures. I must say you are very good with taking them. You better go back and get those glasses for your eyes so you can feel better. You know it's for your own good right.

I’m glad you liked them.

Yes boss.😂

I have always liked them it's just that I don't write anything regarding that 🤣. Good of you 😉

Thank you.😅

We Aficans are so alike. We feel unwell, and we're off to the pharmacy. Rather than explain(at least) to the pharmacist how we're feeling, we just say, "give me anti-malarial drugs," or whichever We feel is wrong with us. It's amusing that it works for us most of the time.

But it's not the right way to go. Getting checked and evaluated by an actual doctor is always best.

You’re right!

ometimes we may look okay but we actually aren’t. I watched a video where someone said that looking fit doesn’t mean you’re healthy and that’s true

This is true, but the chances of a person who is in shape are certainly much higher than those of a sedentary person.

That’s true

The average black man grew up with lots of misconceptions and even when we have medical evidences, we seem to trust complementary and unorthodox medicine.

True, the absence of mental ailments does not translate to mental fitness.

The opthalmologist is a common specialist for check up probably because we expose ourselves more to screen time

I screentime is lower than that of the average youth.😂

Maybe I’m an old woman now .

Hello... please get those lens... I could not read but I had AI read me your article, and its not read all correctly. But it said you have not got the lens done.

You got power in the eyes, it may increase if you don't wear the right specs. It may cause disturbances like pain in head, brurry vision at inopputune times.

I have not gone for check ups, but if you have this problem, you have to get it fixed.

Don't want power to increase in your eyes. Your straining your eyes. Don't do that!

Get the right specs...let it be your instant priority! It's not funny, very serious!

Noted. I’m hoping to go back by the end of the week.
Thanks for passing by.
