Road Rage:A Pothole-Filled Nightmare

In this era, it’s only the average Ghanaian that uses public transport because the issue of transportation in some parts of Ghana today isn’t something to write home about. Most people today would rather prefer to book a ride than sit in a public bus to wherever they are going. As they say ,if you can afford it, why not?

Growing up in the capital city of Ghana, I didn’t really see traffic to be a big deal cos I grew up experiencing it. During my junior high school days, we moved houses and so I had to journey for about 3 hours from my house to the school. But, the poor roads coupled with the traffic in Accra made three hours about 5 hours. There were days I would get to school around 12pm cos I wasn’t getting a bus and a whole lot. With time, I just had to move back to our house closer to my school to complete before moving back.

Moving to the northern part of Ghana came with so many shocks. Transportation wise, I had never sat in a tricycle in my life before. And little did I know that was the major means of transportation here. If you ask me, I think tricycles are much better compared to the buses ‘trotro’ that are being used in Accra. For one, there’s nothing like heat in the tricycle as they are open, just pray you don’t meet rain on the way. Tricycles are also more convenient if you ask me.

Here in the northern part of Ghana, there’s nothing like traffic, surprisingly. I would say it’s one reason why I don’t like to go to Accra these days. Even if there’s traffic here, it’s probably going to last for a minute or two. I think this has to be because this place isn’t as populated as it is in Accra. But, what’s the use of all these if the roads are in a deplorable state.

Aside the main roads in town, most of the roads here are bumpy and dusty. There’s no day you’d use these roads and not end up with back pains. Once, I almost got thrown out of a tricycle on a bumpy road. I was so scared but then, what can I say. All I thought about in that moment was how incompetent some of our leaders are. We have assembly men and members of parliament around who take huge sums of money every month yet they can’t even start some work on the road.

I give you till November this year, all the roads would be filled with sand but not coal to deceive the average Ghanaian that the government has their best interests at heart just to get their vote. Once elections are over, it’s until next 4 years that something will be done about the roads again. I know that Ghana is not poor and I know for sure that funds are being allocated for such projects. So, the only way I think this issue of poor roads can be solved is when our leaders do the right thing instead of pocketing the money.

All what you write are true, why do we have leaders if they can't solve the problem we are facing.

They are there to take from us.

I really really like everything you write and I really enjoy the photos you take

I’m glad you like them, thank you.

It's the filling of sand and not with tar for me😅.
I no that kind of deception. They would do it, do it the following year, do it the next three years but they can't tar it 😅

That’s just what they keep doing. It’s really annoying

Traffic jams are common in populated areas most especially the cities. I guess you gave up one demon for another, having to choose between traffic jams in Accra for dusty roads in the north, I believe it was worth it 😅.

Moreover if you board a tricycle, you have to hold unto it like a horse because it is very flexible which makes ut unyielding to the effect of bumps in the roads.

It seems our government make use of the same tactics to earn votes from citizens during campaigns.

😂😂😂the horse thing is so true. If you just leave it you’ll find yourself on the floor
