Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. It is no new news that the lyrics of songs these days carry no message. People nowadays go into music or singing not because they have the talent, but for the money in the industry, for this reason they just record anything and put it out for people to listen to. Some artists use advertisement and promotion to force their meaningless songs down our throats. Singing is a talent, and so is songwriting. For me, I feel if you don't have what it takes, then don't go into it because in no time it will be obvious that you are just there and dishing out songs without any message.
Those days people criticize reggae music and say it does not carry any message, and all reggae artists are just smokers and drug lords who get their inspiration from the things they take, but for me, reggae is one genre of music with the most meaningful lyrics. Lyrics that will impact your life in ways you did not see coming, unlike what we have today. Many of these artists just hit the studio and ask a producer for a good beat, and when giving, they attach lyrics without meaning and dish out funny how you find people listening to it, and when you try to talk, they tell you they are just a fan and trying to support who they want.
The truth is if these artists give us all these lyrics that do not pass any message, all we do is dance and move our bodies to the beats instead of calling them out and asking them to up their game. Recently, a Nigerian artist (probably your favorite, also known as WizKid) dropped an album, and till today I am still to understand what the whole album is about, but those that are his fans have this album all hyped up and are forcing it down our throats whether we like it or not. They are ready to go to the end of the world to argue and defend him instead of calling him out to let him know that the album released was not up to the standard or level of hype he has.
Many of us who are music lovers and use music to cheer ourselves up whenever we are feeling down can no longer get any good song or music that fits our mood, as these days artists just follow trends and are only after creating music for groove and dance and not one that actually explains how a person feels. Those days one can actually use music to heal and recover from things, but it is not so anymore. Artists put in little to no work at all; after all, no matter how bad it is, they have fans that would still listen, and all that encourages them to do very little since whatever they put on the table is accepted by their fans.
For me, one way I feel we can get artists to put in the work is by having fans say the truth and not be biased, support, or hype a song because it is from their favorite artist whereas the song is mid. Also, the few artists who still put in the work should be applauded publicly and given awards because they merit it and not get robbed of awards because they did not pay for it or because they don't have someone at the top to speak for them.
