Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. Trust me when I say drugs are not something to be messed with, no matter how common it might be. All my life, I never knew even common drugs like diclofenac, paracetamol, and ampiclox could actually be abused until I saw for myself what too much intake of them could do. Diclofenac is one drug I always take like it is nothing; whenever I have a slight pain, I rush to take it, but after my experience, I only take it when the pain becomes unbearable. The truth is that the abuse of any drug has negative effects; some you will get to suffer immediately and some you will suffer in the near future, but in all, if you choose to abuse any drug, then you must make up your mind for the consequences that come later. Sometimes we abuse drugs without even knowing, like in the story I am about to share.
A little girl in my neighbourhood had an injury which resulted to her being given ampiclox and diclofenac for the pain, she started exhibiting symptoms of fever thereby causing her to vomit but her mom made a mistake of giving her another dose of diclofenac and ampiclox for every time she vomits claiming that she had vomited the one giving to her earlier, after sometime the girl went numb, just on the couch, not talking and not responding to conversation just there on the couch with saliva coming out of her mouth and when rushed back to the hospital the doctor confirmed it was overdose of ampiclox, it was that day that I confirmed that some drugs we call common can actually kill if joked with or taken for granted.
When it comes to drugs, we have people who prefer injections to tablets and people who would choose tablets over injections any day, anytime, but whichever one we prefer, abusing it is not even an option and not something we are supposed to think of, but sometimes we do it without even knowing. I have abused drugs a lot of times even as a kid, but I did that out of ignorance, and we paid the price dearly.
Growing up as kids with a mom who was a nurse exposed us to a lot of drugs on a shelf, she had a carpenter nail just for her to keep drugs and all that had to do with her medical kits. It was all good until a friend introduced us to a man who buys bottles those days. Till today, I don't know what he uses those bottles for, but all we had to do was bring him bottles, especially drug bottles, and he will give us candies and toys, and if you bring enough bottles, you get a plastic plate or filter. Whenever he comes around, we must find bottles to sell to him at all costs, as he comes once every two weeks.
One time he showed up as usual and all the bottles on the shelf were still filled. We ran around the house to look for even if it was a few empty bottles, but we got none, and what we settled for was to drink up at least 5 drugs so we could get empty bottles to sell to him, and along the line we ended up drinking chloroquine despite how bitter it tasted, but the candy reward was a motivation. That was one of the worst days of my life. The itching lasted like forever, and mom was on night shift that day, so all I had was my siblings crying with me, and after some time the itching died down. The itching and crying did not stop us from making drinking of drugs to get empty bottles a habit.
