Expectations breaks your heart

I've always been that guy who does stuff for people not because I expect them to do the same for me, but because I'm in the position to help and choose to help.

But as humans that we are, we sometimes find ourselves in situations where the humanity in us takes control and we find ourselves doing things we normally wouldn't do, one of those things being that we expect people to be there for us simply because it just seem like the right thing to expect, seeing how often we've turned up for that person.

Well recently, I got reminded that if the only reason I help people the way I do is only to get favoured in returned, then I might as well just stop right now because no matter how kind you are to certain people, they will always turn against you when the odds are in their favour and against you.

A couple of days ago, due to the money issue I've been having on my crypto app, I've found myself not as financially buoyant as I used to be and this is because I'm the kind of guy who plans his whole week from the first day of the week, and seeing how that money issue came out of no where, it kinda disrupted my entire plan and now I'm literally just trying to survive, trying to make it till the end of the week to restrategize and get back on my feet.

Anyways, if there's one thing I've learnt from this whole predicament, it is that aside from your family, you're on your own. Everyone else is literally after what they can get from you and the moment you stop giving, they all would desert you and move on to the next best thing.

Really looking at it, I honestly don't think there's much to be upset about, because it is just human nature to only want to take and not give back in return. I guess the only reason why I didn't really notice it is because I've been the one giving for a very long time so I must have forgotten what it's like being at the other end of the line.

Anyways, I love it when things like this happens to me because I get to learn from it and really think about my next step before I take it.

Will this change me? Absolutely not. I only will now be very careful to make sure I don't find myself in a position where I go from being the one helping people, to the one needing help, just like I currently am today.

Sort:

That's the reason I want to be a solo warrior in life and I always avoid seeking help from others. It happens and that's the reason I don't have the heart to help others financially unless the person deserves it or it's an emergency.

Being a solo warrior actually helps in a lot of ways, although you might be hated by some people around you.

That is true. Has happened to me too. I always help people in exams as much as I could but in return all I got was covered scripts and a lot of "Wait let me finish". And I got told that I was helped many times as well.

You see this exam thing, I've experienced it a lot of times.. It can be heartbreaking.
