Whenever I think of the amount of information that is out there on the internet that we aren't making use of, it surprises me. And this is because you could literally learn to do anything you want to do online, and most times you don't even have to pay to get that information.
Whenever I think about this, I find myself wondering why most people don't make use of these opportunities and although they may be a couple of reasons why, one of the major things that I've come to find out to be a huge reason, is because it's free.
Experience has taught me that people tend to value things they've spent their hard earned money on, compared to things they get for free...and apparently, I happen to be one of those people.
Many years ago, I was scrolling through some WhatsApp status when I found out that a friend of mine was giving out free tutorials on how to make designs on his WhatsApp status. He would write out the instructions and even encourage us, his viewers to ask him questions if maybe we got stuck somewhere along the line.
Whenever I went on WhatsApp, I would see his status and most times just ignore it. But then I started to follow his instructions just for the fun of it, to see if I too could create the designs he was creating and it was going great for me.
But you see, I had one problem, I wasn't taking it seriously. He was consistently putting out new tutorials on his status everyday while I only would try making just one or two in a week. So I wasn't being consistent with it, until this particular day when I had gone online to his status only to discover that he no longer was posting those free tutorials but instead had opened a paid group.
The money to register was really small at the time but I couldn't register because I had issues with my bank back then, and before I knew it, he began to increase the registration fee until he got so big that he stopped tutoring.
I remember how sad I felt for the next few weeks/months, especially whenever he came online to show us some of the projects he was working on and all that. I watched him go from being broke to being extremely rich and everytime I would tell myself that if only I had taken those free tutorials a little bit more serious.
Now one would think that I had lost a huge opportunity, seeing how sad I was feeling, but the truth was that they were hundreds of other tutorials online, tutorials that were much more better than his and that if I truly wanted to learn, I would take them up and be serious.
But I never did any of that, the ones I did follow, I didn't take serious and if you ask me why, aside from the fact that I probably was lazy and inconsistent, it was also because it was free. And I say this because I know myself, I don't spend huge money on stuff carelessly, so if I had bought a design course for maybe $100 back then, I would have gone through that course more than ten times already and probably would know everything about it, word for word.
Sadly, this same thing also applies to a lof people out there. We don't take things seriously or handle things properly, especially if we got them for free or easily. This is one huge reason why gamblers and fraudsters spend lavishly and carelessly because it was easy money.
