"You can have a thousand problems in life, until you have a health problem and then you only have one problem."

Some few days ago, I had watched this clip on the internet where someone had made this exact quote written up there and I remember how deep it had resonated with me. I had taken a moment to really digest it because I understood every word based off of experience.

Today, my very good friend had behaved in a way that had reminded me about this exact quote, so I had said it to him, word for word.

If you remember, a while back I had written about my caretaker chasing people out who haven't paid their rent for this year and unfortunately, my friend is among those people.. Although due to the fact that he has been here for a while, he wasn't chased out like the rest, but instead was given some grace to pay up.

Well earlier today, he had received a text from the caretaker, reminding him about the rent and telling him that people who were interested in renting his room were queuing up and calling his phone day by day. He had even sent him a screenshot of one of the chats he had with one of the guys.

All of this was just his way of telling my friend that if he doesn't pay up soon, his days at the hostel were numbered. Immediately he sent that text, I watched my friend change from a cheerful person, to someone who was just told that he had a terminal illness.

I immediately became worried for him, especially after he went into his room and didn't come out for hours. When he eventually did, he looked like he had aged a little due to how his face looked, although I knew it was all due to him overthinking.

It was after I saw that, that I had gone ahead to tell him that quote because the last thing anyone wants, is for him to get ill and end up taking money that he should have used to pay his rent, to treat himself instead.

And what's crazy is that if he does get ill, that money that everyone is claiming not to have, will miraculously come out from nowhere.

This is the same reason why I get mad at people spending so much money at burials, when they could have used that same money to save that person's life when they were alive.

Sort:

That's the irony of life, people getting befitting burials at death when they barely survived day to day while alive.

It's sad but like you said, it's the irony of life because it has been happening and from the looks of things, it will keep on happening.
