Challenges are certainly an inevitable part of existence. They are faced on different levels emotional or physical, career or interpersonal, and although most of them may be unpleasant, they are essential in transforming us. For, when we are faced with such obstacles,we try to go beyond what we are comfortable with, learn new things and ways of doing things. This not only helps build our strength, but also equips us to deal with the challenges of life with ease.
Progress means addressing challenges. In the absence of some barriers, the individual has little to no ambition to go beyond himself or herself and to seek new horizons. In the meanwhile, being too much immersed in comfort may also prove dangerous as it may result in stagnation. On the other hand, challenges provide the need to change. They make us come face to face with our fears and doubts, and they make us want to do better. For example, a student who finds a particular course content too hard has to 'go out of the box' and explore different learning techniques, get assistance from colleagues or teachers, and eventually know the subject
For example, a person who is laid-off may feel initial disorientation. But such an obstacle may encourage them to review their career objectives, look to other prospects, and learn new competencies. The period is quite difficult but in the end it builds an inner strength and flexibility. Such ability to bounce back is useful in facing current difficulties, and it also enables one to avert the challenges in the future.
They are also good for learning because they present different tasks. They make us think about the past, look for an answer for the way we did things and why and what can be done differently next time. For instance, a person failed at a particular task and disassociated success from that personal undertaking; however, after some time may reflect on the steps taken for the success to occur and the possible changes that could be effective when confronted with the task again. Tcopedhis helps in gaining more self-awareness and self- growth.
In addition, such experiences tend to make one value their accomplishments even more. We all have experienced that feeling, when a hard and stressful period ends, also a belief that ‘if we with that, then we can cope with this’ appears. This belief gives rise to the need to ‘eat’, grow and take on new challenges which are even greater, resulting in a continuous spiral of growth and accomplishment
Moreover, encountering difficulties can enhance one’s sense of empathy towards others and create bonding. For instance, over the period of struggle, one becomes more sensitive to the problems of other people. Such feelings may strengthen the bonds between people as they will be ready to provide help and encouragement to those around them dealing with difficulties. For example, an individual who has been through some sickness may be more understanding of friends or relatives suffering from the same ailments.
To conclude, challenges play an important part in the development of an individual. They encourage us to go beyond our limits, help in building toughness, aid in socialization and even learning. One would prefer not to cross the line of comfort by facing challenges but doing so will bring about genuine change. Every problem in our way is an opportunity to grow up, a chance to test our limits and an inch closer to who we aspire to be. Instead of running away from challenges, when we embrace them, we release our wishes and dreams and are opened to a lifetime full of satisfaction.
