Gone are those days when radio was the only means of getting information nationwide. Then, my dad couldn't do without listening to the news every hour whenever he was at home. Even when he wasn't at home, my mom would tune her husband's radio to the news because there was nothing like TV or smartphones to watch the news, not even the Internet.
Then I was always frustrated whenever I heard the noise of the radio and to top it up a Yoruba station that would be speaking big and deep Yoruba that only adults could understand, so I always went as far as I could away from the radio because I don't like listening to the news, mostly because I don't understand what they are saying.
Let's just say I have not been a fan of news right from when I was a kid, but then I didn't have a choice since the radio was always in the sitting room where we ate and played, so whenever it was on, I would definitely hear the news one way or another.
Now that I am an adult, I can choose whatever I want to listen to. I am not that little child who doesn't have a choice but to listen to the news, so I haven't usually listened to the news ever since I became an adult because listening to it will only break my heart since a lot is happening in the world we live in now, and to top it up, there are so many ways the news keeps coming to you even when you don't want to listen.
The last time I genuinely tuned my TV to listen to the news was during the End Sars time, and that was because I felt really bad to hear that our government is killing citizens for fighting for their rights and what belongs to them. But then most TV stations manipulated the news; what they were saying was different from what was really happening, so I was left with no choice but to stop watching the news on TV.
It was said and shown on Facebook that a lot of people were killed while some were injured badly, which TV news never informed people about, so that got my attention to check more of the news, but then I realized that most people that posted on Facebook as well seemed to have cut out of the news, so I left Facebook and went to X. Then I realized X carried facts, and if you are looking for the real gist then you should be on X and not watching TV news that was manipulated already before sharing it with people.
The main reason why people listen to the news is because they want to know what is going on in the country and all over the world, so why manipulate such information before sharing it? I feel cheated watching the news on the TV because I know one or two things must have been replaced or removed from the news, so why watch it when what they are saying is not real and true?
I don't believe any news on TV because they don't share the real facts, and their excuse for that is what I am yet to know; it is called news, which means it should be true and not manipulated news that has been shared for us.
Well, as humans, we all feel like getting more facts whenever we discover that the news that was shared with us has been edited before sharing, so yes, I always feel like knowing the facts, so instead of wasting my time on TV news, I would rather go to X to find the real news and the facts as well since I know that is the only app that carried the real source, then I am rest assured that I know what is happening in the country or my city.
