The year 2024 has been amazing and it has also been one with lots of sadness, especially with different thoughts invading my mind, but in all, I'm grateful to be here typing this. There are many unforgettable memories this year and many of them are of the good side; I would say the good part excelled more than the bad part.
It all started with me starting my service year in January, where I was given a subject I never thought I could take, but I realised that it only takes lots of practice and dedication to give the best. When I went to submit my letter in the first week of December 2023, I was told the only subject available to take was English language, and if I didn't take it, they would reject me.
I've always thought English is a language so hard, and one has to be sound in it to be able to do their best. I took the subject with a frightened mind, and on the first day of taking my class, I was shivering, but I was able to handle it very well. Towards the end of my service year, I received lots of compliments and the one that stuck to my heart was when I was being commended for a great job taking a subject I never took before but did well. I received positive feedback on how I dedicated my time to my service and impacted the students. I received lots of gifts I never imagined and it was an amazing memory to me.
Another unforgettable memory is one that happened in April. This was something I never expected, especially at that moment when I kept having different thoughts about how to go about it. I was at home preparing to go for vigil, and I saw a message popped up in our group on WhatsApp from my sister. I thought of checking it when I got back from church, but I decided to have a glimpse of it, I screamed at what I saw.
My big sister sent 1.6 million naira into our joint account, in which we share the responsibilities together, while my immediate younger sister is the account manager, and she disbursed money to whoever we want to give. The money was sent to settle our two siblings who are in the university, and the money covered their tuition fees till they graduate, house rent for 2 years and other bills like foodstuffs with their transportation costs that will last them for 2 semesters each.
I was shocked, and at the same time, so excited because a huge responsibility was lifted off my head. This was what I had been thinking of how I would go about it but here comes a miracle from God because according to my sister, she wasn't expecting the money from the company she had worked for before but seeing such money in her account made her to immediately transfer to us so we could take care of our siblings while they don't suffer been in school.
I was overjoyed in the church that night, and all I was doing was thanking God for such a blessing and for coming through for us. The money is still remaining, some that will last them, and we don't have anything to be bothered about come next year.
This is something I will never forget cause with that, I was able to focus on myself rather than being in deep thought finding ways to help my siblings in school because truth is, being a student isn't an easy task and we don't want them to go through tough times due to our inability to sponsor them. So far, the year 2024 has turned out awesome, and that's something I can only be grateful to God for.
