Part of the things that makes life easier wherever one is living is good infrastructure and basic amenities. Thank God for the development in cities these days that each house has its own means of getting good and clean water for use, either by digging wells or boreholes. It would have been so saddening to wake up every blessed day and walk around the community just to get water to use for daily activities. For someone like me who uses water very well, I can't imagine buying water for use because I will be spending much on water, and as we all know, water is life; it is very useful for almost if not all our daily activities, although in some states, the residents still buy water on a daily basis. I remembered my last visit to Lagos eight years ago. Where I lived, we did buy a big bowl of water for #50 while the smaller one was sold for #30, as at then, I couldn't imagine how much it would be sold presently.

When it comes to getting an accommodation, I always make sure to look for certain things in the community or environment before agreeing to settle there. Part of which are a good road, electricity supply, water source, proximity to a market, a tarred road, my workplace, and the residents of that particular area I wanted to settle in. All these are very important to me because it wouldn't make enough sense for me to rent an apartment in an environment where they are lacking all these listed factors; it will cost me more and also be too stressful. But sometimes, we don't just get enough of what we want. Everything can't be perfect; one just has to put these factors on a scale of preference and choose the ones that are more important than the others.
When I wanted to rent an apartment in school, it took me quite a long time because I was looking for an apartment with all the above listed values. Although I almost got everything except for good electricity supply, at the end a substitute was made for that, as there is always a generator set available from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following day, and that's for every day, so I had no complaints. Lack of these things causes even mental stress. I do see my colleagues struggle every day to charge their phones and laptops; many miss important information because their phones are off and they couldn't get it charged on time.
Now that the school is on holiday and I'm back to my parent's house, one major infrastructure lacking in that community is a good road. Their roads are bad. Recently, my dad was complaining about how the road had damaged some parts of his car, which is affecting the proper functioning of the car and causing him to spend more, which could have been avoided if the road was good. I would have chosen electricity supply because this isn't so stable in this community too, but to some extent it is manageable, but the bad road isn't; it's a major source of concern. Some individuals who are residents do try at times to fill the large potholes with sand and grade it, but that always lasted for a short period of time before it got damaged again.
The residents are always in fear whenever it's rainy season because the road will be so bad that one will be scared to take his or her car out as it will always be faulty, which will require quite a bit of money to repair. The road has been bad for years, and I don't think the government will ever intervene in such a situation, a situation, so it is left to individuals to take up the responsibility of finding a lasting solution to it for their sake. And those who couldn't keep up with it would have to relocate to another locality. Although coping with this bad road hasn't been easy, the only solution for now is to drive gently and slowly out of the road, until you are on a tarred road that is easy to drive on.
