Designed using Canva
Hello there, it is another week of the newbie initiative and in this week's task, we are going to be talking about the use of the various markdown, Canvas for thumbnail designing, and the unwritten rules of the hive blockchain.
As a Hivean, what are things that are expected of you? What is the thing which is not expected of you to not do?
Let’s start with the things that are not expected of you as a Hivean.
Plagiarism
One of the biggest crimes of the hive blockchain is plagiarism.
Plagiarism in lay-mans terms is simply copy work.
Plagiarism is simply the use of one’s work or idea as your own without giving proper reference to the author. It may be a word or phrase copied from the internet or a book read.
There are 4 main types of plagiarism.
- Direct plagiarism: This type of plagiarism involves the copying of word by word from another person’s work
- Self-plagiarism: This type of plagiarism is self-explanatory. It is when one re-used his own already published post as a new post. It doesn’t matter whether it is yours, it a classified as plagiarism
- Mosaic Plagiarism: This involves the use of a word or phrase from the internet or a book without putting it in a quotation mark
- Accidental Plagiarism: This involves the paraphrasing of an author’s work and not giving credit to the original author.
Sourcing
Another important thing to consider as a newbie on Hive I the use of the correct sources.
This is another method of you telling the reader that the content or image he or she is viewing isn’t yours and can be found in the link you provide under the image. Most images found on the blockchain are correctly sourced since they are downloaded from the internet. Images that are downloaded from the internet and are not correctly sourced are considered plagiarism.
An example of a correctly sourced image is shown below:
The image above is just an example of a correctly sourced image and when clicked on the link below the image, it leads you straight to the site where it was downloaded from
Now, let’s look at some of the things that are expected to be done as a newbie.
Markdown
One of the most essential tools in the hive blockchain is the use of markdown.
It shows how neat and presentable your work is, even if you have a few words to write, with the use of proper markdown your work blog attracts votes.
Below are some of the examples of Markdown used by most users on the hive blockchain
HEADING
Every post created by authors has a header, below shows how the header tag is used.
# I AM HEADER 1
## I AM HEADER 2
### I AMHEADER 3
#### I AM HEADER 4
I AM HEADER 1
I AM HEADER 2
I AMHEADER 3
I AM HEADER 4
The headers above used shows how big your header will look, the first one when used will be bigger than the second one, the second will also be bigger than the third one when used and so one
BOLD, ITALIC, AND CENTER
The next thing I will be talking about is the use of bold italics and center.
To bolden a text we use the two-star signs at both the beginning and the end of the text you wish to bolden for example:
**HELLO I AM BOLD**
HELLO I AM BOLD
To italicize a text, we use a one-star sign at both the beginning and the end as shown in the example below:
*HELLO I AM ITALICIZED*
HELLO I AM ITALICIZED
To make a text to b in the middle we show the command
<center> HELLO I AM IN THE MIDDLE</center>
You can also combine all the tags in a single text as shown below:
<center>***BOLD, ITALIC and CENTER***</center>
JUSTIFY
The use of the justify tag makes your text looks attractive to read. You all the tags in your post, but without the use of the justify tag, your post will look disorganized. An example of how the justify tag is used is shown below.
<div class=text-justify> at the beginning of your article and the closing tag is </div>
These are just a few of the markdowns shown, If you want to learn more about the markdowns, click on the link below:
Markdowns
Engagement.
On the hive blockchain, engagement is very important since it exposes you to another content creator.
The hive blockchain is another form of social media that curates its users based on the content and also based on your engagements with other authors, you don’t get curated for just posting and not engaging in other people’s posts. You only get recognized based on how active you are in engaging in other people’s posts since it helps you to build a reputation on the blockchain.
An example of an engaged person is someone who comments on other people’s posts, actively participates in community contests, and also joining community discord to interact with other users
Tags
One of the most important ways of getting viewers is the use of proper tags.
People of Hive creates good content post that gets little exposure is the use of wrong tags for their post. The use of proper tags exposes your content for curation.
For example, if a hive user writes a post about sports and then forgets to use the sports tag gets little attention on his or her post since content curators search for the post based on tags.
These are the dos and don’ts of the hive blockchain
Your thumbnail should be made using Canva, show us the steps you took to make your thumbnail.
In this section, I will be talking about how I designed my thumbnail using the Canva app.
I, first of all, launched the Canva app as seen in the image below
Canva home page
Secondly, I clicked on the plus icon below the home page and then choose my desired workspace.
The next thing I did was change the background color to my desired color.
The next thing I did was click on the text icon and started adding my text to my workspace
The next thing I did was to go into my gallery and added a hive picture I had in my photos
After I was done with the picture adding, I repositioned the texts I added to my work to my desired position
I also went ahead to add a frame for a picture to be added to the work
This was the final result of my editing which you've already seen at the start of this post.
Conclusion
These are all the necessities one should know as a newbie when introduced into the hive community and if care is not taken, you can get yourself muted forever or downvoted on your post.
