If there is one hobby that all people shares in common, I think it was the hobby of listening to music. It is a hobby that everyone enjoy regardless of their age or social standing and at the same time, a hobby that anyone can easily have an access to. Listening to music does not only help to cheer us during the times when we are down but can also amplifies the feeling of happiness that we have during joyful times. At times, music also inspires people to become what they want to be or stand up for what they believe is right.
As individuals, we may have a varying taste on music but it is not because the music is bad but because on how the song resonates with us. At least that is what I believe as someone who mainly listens to Rock music. Many people may find Rock songs loud or aggressive and the complexity of lyrics makes it difficult to comprehend the message of the song while the rough voice can even scared away some people but for me, it just hits perfectly. As a matter of fact, my Hive ign was derived from a rock band that I happen to listen during the creation of my account.
My Hive Username was taken from This band.
Anyways, If there is one song that I can say to be one of my all time favorite, it is the song Jesus of Suburbia from the album American Idiot by Greenday which is labeled by others as the "Bohemian Rhapsody" for Punk Rock and as my all time favorite, I have completely memorized this song and I can say that it was a song that I can listen all they long without ever getting tired.
Part of this is because the song is composed of 5 different sections namely:
0:00 - Jesus of Suburbia
3:41 - City of the Damned
5:31 - I Don't Care
7:13 - Dearly Beloved
9:12 - Tales From Another Broken Home
In each section, there is a change in the style and tone of the song but still perfectly sync with the other sections of the song. What's more is that the music video perfectly depicts the song and the story that it wants to convey. It about a man named Jesus who was born in Suburban America that was betrayed by his lover, neglected by his parents and the struggles of growing up along with the heavy expectations of the society. Feeling disconnected with everyone and suffocated with everything, he decided to left his town. However things doesn't end with this song and you need to listen to the rest of the song to get the entirety of the lore.
Jesus of Suburbia was released on November 2005 which makes it almost 20 years. Mind you, that I was just 12 years old when I first heard this song through Myx which is kind of our version of MTV during the time that it still showing the newest music but despite that, the song still holds today and the things that that the song tackles are stuff that still happening in our modern society which makes it relatable to people of different people. Looking at it now, the contents of the song may not be age appropriate by the back then, 12 year me but at that time, I wasn't as proficient in English so I do not really understand the most of the song but the music and the voice of the vocalist gets me. There was even a time when me an my friends would sing the song together while we hang around on our "Secret Base" which is just a disposed Nipa Hut that we try to repair. One of my friend owns a Walkman and through there, we will listen to this song along with other Greenday song in repeat. We actually did a bad job repairing it and the Nipa Hut collapsed after a year. Listening on it today has reminded me of those childhood memories.
So yeah, that was the one organized sound that I will always listen to without getting tired of it and if you have yet to listen to the song, I recommend you trying it along with the rest of the songs in the album. Even up to this date, I still continue to explore other music Jesus of Suburbia will always hold a special place in my heart. Overall, music is a wonderful form of art that allows people to express their feelings through songs that resonates to the listeners.
