Hiiii! It's been a minute since you heard from me. I'm so sorry for the absence. I got caught up in other things and other things and I couldn't create content.
I'm a creative content writer and sometimes a story teller. You can check out my blog http://medium.com/@Itunuoluwanimishodayo
When I read the feedback (compliments, opinions and questions) from my blog, I ask myself "what was so special about this blog post?" "Why did people like it?"
So I've come up with these three tested and trusted tips that have been consistent in my writing. These are things that I use and have produced good results for me. So I thought I should share.
They are three E's
Empathy
Expressions and expressive words
Everybody's different, be your own different.
EMPATHY
I think one thing that really makes my writings stand out is empathy. I often can't write a gripping story unless I can conveniently put myself in the person's shoes.
When I want to write about a person, I become that person. A lot of times when people read my work, they think it's personal, they think it's something I'm going through. This is not always true. I think that being able to utilize empathy and then putting it into your writing makes it relatable and real.
Try putting yourself in your character's shoes. Become your character and watch how your stories change.
EXPRESSIONS
It's one thing to be empathic, it's another thing to be able to properly express feelings and thought processes.
Using the right words is also very very important. Some words don't carry or convey emotions the way they should.
For example, instead of saying "When he left me, I felt very sad."
You could say "After being abandoned by him, I felt bereft.
Because some words are used in our everyday speech, they carry less weight than others. One way to ensure you're using the right words is by using a thesaurus. Always check for synonyms of words before you use them.
PS: this doesn't mean you should overdo the English thing.
EVERYBODY'S DIFFERENT
My last tip is "everybody's different, be your own different."
This tip is just about staying true to yourself. Everybody has different writing styles that make them unique. Find what your strength is and maximize it.
I found out that I'm very great at expressing emotions, some more than others (I'm better at expressing sadness, pain etc). I stuck to what I knew how to do and it has become something I'm known for. So it's important to find your own strength and stick with it.
Be you, be true. And keep writing beautifully. The world is waiting to read you!
Thank you for reading to the end. I promise you'd hear from me soon!
