Today I received the biggest shock of my Hive career when someone close to me plagiarised. I received a call from him earlier this morning, informing me that he had received a comment from Hive Watchers accusing him of plagiarism. In his own words, he stated:
Now this is where my question arises....
I'm still trying to figure out why this friend plagiarised, despite knowing the consequences. Why on earth would anyone plagiarise... It is not difficult to share original content without having to plagiarise, or do people simply not understand the definition of originality (Uniqueness)?
It is very possible for multiple people to write on the same topic and have each of their articles be unique. The sense of feeling, tone, personality, and experience to that topic are what make it unique.
This is why I don't understand why anyone would deliberately seek to plagiarise unless it is done to reap rewards or under duress to create content.
There is a reason why I don't write frequently; it's not because I don't have anything to write, but because I don't want to put pressure on myself to write; I don't want to think about having to look through the internet to plagiarise, which I have never done and will never do.
If you want to write about an item or topic that requires you to conduct research on the internet, there is a way to do so that does not require you to copy from what has already been written. It is simply by sharing your personal thoughts on the subject or item.
I've created content for tech reviews in which I had to research a product and write a review about it. I accomplished this without even having to plagiarise. What makes this possible? That is because I wrote more about my personal thoughts rather than claiming things from the internet, and I also gave credit to reference sites.
Never assume that just because a plagiarism tool says your work is unique means it is free of plagiarism...
If you used a plagiarism detector for your work in the first place, you are aware that you did something wrong and are attempting to avoid being caught. Personally, I have never used a plagiarism detector on any of my content because I know what I wrote and the true source of the content.
I don't see why you should run your work through a plagiarism detector when you know what you wrote is based solely on your personal experience. I've only used an online plagiarism detector when scanning through other people's content, never mine.
If you write an article that prompts you to check for plagiarism, you know you've plagiarised...
Being unique distinguishes you from the crowd and allows you to feel fulfilled. I'm not sure about you, but it makes me feel fulfilled because you know your content is yours. You don't have to go through any detectors for your articles. You create an audience that likes you because of your tone and feel...
I'm not sure why anyone would plagiarise right now, but I know it's something people will do no matter how much we speak out against it. It irritates me, but what can I do?
