“What is your purpose in life?"
This is a question that I get every time. While growing up, while reading, during the sermon on a Sunday and even during motivational speeches by motivational speakers.
“What is your purpose on this earth?"
“What do you think you were put on this earth to achieve?”
These are the questions that I am plagued with every single day.
Purpose in a general sense is seen as a reason to do something, an essential factor that gives us the drive to carry on living this life that we live. Purpose is the reason we wake up every day and go out there to do whatever it is our mind is set on purposefully.
It is essentially what drives us to achieve set goals and objectives in our lives.
I do believe that every individual has a purpose to fulfill on this earth other than just make money alone to get by and then grow old and die. Given the circumstances of how the human race and the whole universe came into being, I really believe that we are no ordinary species and so our purpose though it varies from person to person is definitely not as ordinary as making money just to get by and survive in this cold harsh world.
Our purpose as humans is much deeper and meaningful than that.
It has always been said that it is up to us to make our own destiny and to create the path that we were meant to walk on and it is up to us to decide which path to follow in life.
Many also believe that everyone has a purpose predestined to them even before they were born and such purpose is divine and given to us by the Almighty Creator, something like a mission.
There are a wide range of beliefs regarding this construct, everyone talking about what they believe purpose is.
MY BELIEF ON THE CONCEPT OF PURPOSE:
Personally, I think that my purpose is this life is to live life to the fullest. Now, one would think about frivolous things like extravagant parties and partaking in dangerous activities all in the name of living, no. That is not what I mean.
What I mean is in order to fully live life in the way life is meant to be lived, it has to come from within. We each have to look inward to discover the person we are on the inside, our essence, to understand what exactly gives meaning to our life as humans. We discover what makes us happy and the things that matter to us no matter how little such things are, we try to understand our self more then we are capable of finding our purpose in life.
We weren't born to just live life without exploring the plethora of possibilities given to us. There is a whole lot of wonderful things to discover about ourselves and the world we live in and it is our purpose to discover those things in the ways that matters to us in order for us to actually live with purpose.
I believe that it is only an individual that truly understands himself to the core that would be able to tap into what his purpose should be. That purpose can be a singular thing but can be fulfilled in different ways, through different outlets.
It is not everyone that would choose to deeply look inward in order to familiarize themselves with who they are on the inside as it can be scary sometimes to face our true selves which is why many times people choose what's easier in terms of finding their purpose and pursuing that purpose.
I don't think purpose is a social construct as it is an essential part of us as complex beings. The word purpose is just a word ascribed to the inevitable desire of the human race to search and understand the life that we are living.
Purpose is the reason we wake up every morning, it should be what motivates us to get up even when hit with failure. Purpose is the reason we strive to make the world a better place, it is the reason we live.
I do not believe that there is a single person on this earth without a purpose in life. As we are all born with the inevitable desire to seek what is for us, every person on this earth has whatever it is that drives them to be better, that gives them motivation and elevates their self esteem in times of depression.
No matter how flimsy a person's sense of purpose may seem to you because it might not be as grand as yours is, it only means that such a person has a reason they're happy to be alive every day.
It is up to us to look inward, learn more about ourselves in order to find out what our individual purpose really is.
