They both had well-paying jobs that people were envious of, but they won’t stop reminding them that they still didn’t have it all until they birth children and that’s when they really would be happy in life. Well, it was just envy speaking.
By the sixth year of their marriage, their dream came to reality. The wife conceived and moved far away from the preying eyes of the people. But she couldn’t avoid work, so a lot of people knew in no time that she was pregnant.
The husband on the other hand knew that he had a lot of work to do caring for his wife and the child while making sure that work didn’t feel an impact of the stressful period he was going through. He tried and he was successful at it.
He was a top performer at his job, so he couldn’t just stay off for some time, so he tried to diligently complete all his obligations because, in no time, his wife would birth his child, and he would need all the time he could get to be with his family and bond with his child. So, he did all he could.
The wife on the other hand, was experiencing the pregnancy as it came. However, at some point, she knew it was about time to get a break from work, so she applied for a maternity leave. It wasn’t in any way problematic because ideally, she was entitled to the leave. But there was one problem.
She needed her husband to be with her. She had no other person except her husband. All her family members were far away from her and her husband’s family were all out of the country. And because the preying eyes were much more than the people that love them for real, she couldn’t make friends with the people around.
It was supposed to be a smooth journey, but her one person wasn’t available because his company wasn’t going to let him leave because he had just one more leave to apply for and it won’t happen until the end of the year. So, he was torn between staying with his wife, and going to work. There was no way he would resign at work just because he couldn’t. So, he found a personal help for his wife.
His wife finally put to bed, and his joy knew no bounds. The heavens blessed them with cute twin girls. It was a happy moment for his family, but he wasn’t fully around to celebrate the new joy. He was on an official assignment for his firm outside the country of their residence and could only bond with the family over the phone.

On returning from his work trip, the first thing he did was to go directly to his family where he learnt the many complications his wife went through. He wasn’t completely unaware of the issues because he sent the money for all the procedures, however, he was pained because he left his wife alone to experience the pain and still tried to care for their baby all by herself.
They cried so much with each other. At that point, he decided to go back to his company and applied for an unpaid leave that’ll last the duration of his wife’s maternity leave. It was an important decision for him because his family needed him, and it was a decision he didn’t regret.
Mothers are not the only ones that need maternity leave from work. Even fathers deserve to be off work to bond with the baby, understand the new things about the wife and provide support where necessary.
