To Speak Up or Stay Silent?

I've been using computers for a long long time. Ever since I saw the game Lunar Lander on the Commodore Vic 20 in the very early 1980s (1982 or so).

As such I have a little different viewpoint on what to do with computers.

I also love the Hive blockchain as I think it is an awesome platform and its ability to store my blog onto a blockchain which is resistant to censorship and deletion by a corporate authority is a huge reason why I want it to flourish!

However, I was thinking about different ways that I could use the blockchain and I came up with one, unconventional one, that would be really useful to me to relive and store memories from my computer past in an undeletable way.

Then I thought some more.

If used incorrectly it could destroy the blockchain or at least give it a huge black eye.

I'm torn.

If I bring my concerns to light one of a few different things could happen:

  1. I could be reassured that its a non-issue on the blockchain and I can rest assured that there are no worries.

  2. I could be bringing to light a vulnerability that could be taken care of so that it makes the blockchain stronger in the future.

  3. I could enlighten less reputable users to actually use my hack to destroy the blockchain that I love.

So, an open question to the Hive community. What is the best way to approach this problem, or maybe not a problem, in a way that doesn't ruin everything.

😓😥

What you’re thinking of doing can be understood in different ways.

Do you want to use the blockchain as something like a cloud to store your files? If so, how large are the files, what type of files are they, and do the content of the files violate community rules like containing NSFW material? If they contain NSFW stuff, you can just use the NSFW tag to conceal it from people not interested, and that kinda solves that problem.

Also keep in mind that the undeletable nature of information on the blockchain means that if you ever decided you didn’t want it here anymore, well…you can’t really revoke it being here anymore. Not in an absolute way, as there’ll always be history of it here.

I think it’s really up to you though. Everyone decides how they use Hive so no one can really tell you whether that’d be a great idea or not. I’m not really an expert at things Hive so maybe someone else might have a better suggestion:)

For me? I have a few special things I'd to store in a permanent fashion. A few songs that are precious to me. A few pictures that are just as precious. As well as my bible. Things that if I was ever called out on I would proudly stand by my decision to keep them.

But if you can store good memories then bad things can be stored as well.

Now typically people just send a link to a file that is stored on a server just like every image I see in every post. If the copyright police ever came by or if it was against community rules, or truly illegal the server could purge the file and it would be gone.

But as far as I can tell, the content on the block chain itself is undeletable. Now that's great for me to store a copy of my bible (Yes, I'll make sure its not a copyright version) but what happens if illegal content goes onto the blockchain itself?

There’s two sides to everything right? This would just be the other side to the blockchains immortal data storage. Haha. But we’re here to keep that from happening. That’s why we have people looking out for these kinda stuff and fighting them to keep the chain clean.
