Influential Speaker

As the topic explicitly mentions "Ethics", it is the time that I should wear my specs, take a book, and give a brief lecture. Becoming a Social media influencer will be a tough job for anyone. As it requires not just the knowledge but the ability to withstand the criticism. Choice of words, pitch or tone when delivering the words, environment, context - good amount of things plays behind the scene. It is also difficult as it requires one's to be neutral. We live in a diverse society, even the same word means different in different languages. Culture plays a major part here. A western culture modern influencer may not be liked by the rigid, orthodox social viewer.

What is influencing?

It is the use of a context or premise to align the orientation of a viewer in a desired manner. It works best on the people who are ambivalent in nature. An ambivalent person is in a neutral state and possess mixed feelings for a subject or an object. In this situation, a little push can make the ambivalent person - a rightist or a leftist. It is tough for ambivalent person to hold his/her/them ground if the person is not grounded to its values and morality.

Whom they target?

For example, A biased speaker(let's say a rightist) would like to target the majority of right-ideological thinker and the ambivalent people. But in recent trends, the target covers leftist ideological peron as well. This gives a lot of engagement and makes the social media platform a battlefield between right and left.

Did anyone said clickbait?

Clickbait was the trick of old times, the genz era has a new method - ragebait. Baiting is the context taken from fishing rod which attracts almost every size or type of fish. In ragebait, social media influencers create such contents that has the sole aim of triggering an audience which may not be the regula audience. For example,

This UK youtuber went to India last month. He covered everything bad about India, as if nothing good exists in the country. I am actively refraining to use his youtube channel name as it may serve the hidden intention he wants - more views, more ragebait engagements. This sparked a good amount of rage in his video's comment section. Both Western and Asian people flooded his reels with supportive messges and threats.

It amuses me as if why one will spend a huge money on travels and hotels just to cover the bad and negatives about a country ? - money, fame, audience because that what's serve as drugs to them and gives the sensation of being in spotlight and relevance.

Ethics for Social Media Influencer

Whent the effect of social media is such influential and covers audience from each age groups, it becomes very important to regulate the content and confirming such contents according to the guidelines.

I pin out a few important pointer that can help the social media influencers to remain on the right path. Explaining such pointers will stretch this blog too a larger extent, hence I framed them in two poles - positives and negatives.

  • Influence but do not persuade.
  • Empower but do not radicalize.
  • Spread the news, not the propaganda.
  • Respect the diversity not just the factions.
  • Pursue the bigger goals not the personal interest.
  • Understand the context but not sensationalize it.
  • Observe the social responsibility and not just the personal morallity.
  • Become the voice, not just the fame.
  • Be the change not the money game.

Thank you
