Chronicles Of The First Job

in #hive-153850last year

How time flies!
It's crazy how our first time at something becomes a distant memory with the passing of time. Life, like we all know, is full of firsts. Our first travel experience. Our first time in school. Our first car. Our first relationship. The first kiss. Our first time of having......, never mind, lol.

It's funny how all these becomes a story to be told someday. Just like it is with this prompt

Life in itself is filled with discovery. With every discovery we make, comes the experience we garner from it. Our very first time on anything actually sets us on a path of discovery. In it we might discover our true personality and that which we have inside of us. From this discoveries we are better educated on how to position for future endeavours that life throws our path.

If you come from my kind of background, you would agree with me that the idea of a first job (relative though) happens at a much younger age. Resources at home is never always enough. You just have to step up faster.

I remember the days, still in primary school, we would go to building sites to see if we could help out with one or two errands so as to get paid. Sometimes it entails us carrying mixed cements and blocks to where they were needed. It was a thing of pride to earn from our efforts. But I guess the topic is technically for first jobs out of school, more like at a much older age.

You know that feeling of "I want to be an entrepreneur, I don't want to work for anyone", like any ambitious Young man growing up, I had it. While in school, I never for one day nursed the idea of working for someone. But then life is never 1 +1, it will always find a way to humble you. Coupled with the economic situation in the country, it was always going to be difficult.

Job Hunting

After school, still with the entrepreneur mindset, I did some hustling, Wouldn't really call them a job passe, but they filled a gap. I did them to pass time and see if I could use them to raise some funds.

A friend introduced me to modelling, more like trying to get some advertising jobs. We would go for different additions. It was quite stressful but I got some adverts to do. The pay was fine but most times they take like forever to pay models. Never really liked that part.

What I would regard as my very first job came in between hustling for my modelling jobs. I was employed in a major advertising company. The company at that time was in charge of branding and promotions for very big multinationals, running various marketing activities for their product and services.

Our job entails Travelling from state to state, doing one form of campaign and marketing. We would be on tour for six months, sometimes more, from our base. It was fun and wild. I thoroughly enjoyed my time, especially when we go on those long trips.

I worked there for 3 years and decided to leave. I guess I outgrew the job. There was so much happening on the trips that I was not too down with. That job could corrupt you if you as much as loose guard.

Nevertheless, I learnt and gained so much from it. One of my strong side hustle now is cooperate branding, and I got plenty of experience on how to go about it from that job. I have been to virtually every party of the country, thanks to this job. This came in handy when I needed contacts in different states for supply of my imported tablets and phones. That job taught me and exposed me to a lot.

The big question now is, would I go back to the job if I had the chance?

May be at a much younger age, I would 100%. But at my age now, it would be a no. My level of spirituality (not that deep though) might not agree or conscend to a lot of things especially when we get to promote cigarettes and it was like sodom and gomorrah jumping from hotel to hotel.

All in all, it was an experience that was worth, only wish somethings could be toned down a bit.

This is quite interesting, but the best part of all these is that there is always something to learn from each experience. At least, you got to notice that the mode of the job didn't suit your lifestyle and values.

The Biblical reference to Sodom and Gomorrah is quite hilarious. Nice one, Bro

Thanks bro. The Job was fun and enjoyable but had so much going on. Never regretted it one bit though.
Thanks for stopping bye
