***Free anf fair media is actually compromisex and controlled media. ***
Watching news, staying in touch with current affairs, and knowing what’s happening around in every field is my favorite hobby. This has been bequeathed to me by my father. I saw my grandfather tuning news channels always and the same is my father. This was due to their habit that their intellect and grip on every topic was very strong. And this is what I am obsessed with as well.
Earlier, it was only television that was required to play news channels but now with the advent of mobile phones, you can tune news channels from anywhere. But I must hear a “Bullet In “daily most probably at 9 o'clock. And I try to manage time as well to listen to one or two transmissions. Transmissions help you obtain different perspectives on a single topic. You can get different viewpoints and this helps in boosting your analysis skills.
I have adopted the habit of newspapers as well. It is what many people have left but newspapers increase insight on different topics more than channels do. Secondly, I love reading as well and that’s why I try not to skip the daily publication of a newspaper. Newspapers provide detailed notes on every news and cover hot topics in an elucidatory manner.
Being Pakistani we are well aware of the credibility of mainstream media. By the fortune of dictators, the media focuses mainly on suppressing the voices of those who are on the “Dislike list “ of men in uniform. We might have hardly enjoyed a free and transparent media because those who dared to speak against the ruling elite and junta, faced incarceration, economic and social deprivations, and violation of rudimentary rights.
By imposing many restrictions on media houses, govt has not curbed the dissemination of false information and propaganda but hushed the voices of those who want to criticize the government. Media can give full coverage of high-profile movements to buy some votes for amendment in approval but it can’t report atrocities ongoing in many parts of the country. It can show you a glimpse of style awards and daily doings of govt personnel but will not torch light on the deprivations and necessities of people. Media will even conceal the blatant violation of establishment because it is beyond their power.
So in all this how can one be sure about the veracity of news and how can one believe it? The advent of social media though possessing many flaws has exposed the partiality of media houses. Social media slams the media houses for the glimpses of those incidents which mainstream media try to hide on some dictation. The news channels being controlled by ruling elites or associates of the ruling elite will present in a maneuvered manner.
Though the role of media is very doubtful I don’t stop relying on it for news. Indeed I try to access social media and local ordinary news channels because this is how I can compare and assess what can be true. Watching multi international news channels also helps in diversifying opinions and knowing how different nations think.
Undoubtedly the main stream media has been compromised to a larger extent. They are being exploited by the ruling elite and powerful mafias. They control the media which instead of raising voices against inhumanity and brutality of them, brandise them. Only a few dare to speak on behalf of victims and innocents. Only a few fulfill their duty with honesty. But despite all of this, it will not be prudent as well to skip them thinking about their partiality only. It will worsen the scope of awareness. We must stay in touch with what is going around.
