All of us buy items. Daily, we go to markets and shop for what we desire. We choose and then bargain and this builds a communication interaction with the shopkeeper/retailer. Despite many shops, we usually choose the one which suits us best with respect to distance, quality, and price. But there is also one more factor that helps in choosing the trader from whom to buy i.e. Trader’s attitude.
A Good communication skill is one of the top requirements of business. You fail as a businessman if you don’t have a complacent, kind, and persuading tone. Good communication imprints indelible marks on customers’ memories and drops a psychological visiting card to visit the same shop again.
But not all are aware of good business skills. Some use deceit to earn gains while some adopt harsh behaviour. There might be exceptions but usually, they fail in a longer turn. To grow your business, you have to increase your customers, and to increase customers, you have to adopt measures to build customers’ trust in you.
When the business demands effective and kind communication, some pretend by their harsh behavior that they are not interested at all in selling their products. They will look so grumpy and angry. It becomes cumbersome for them to offer every product to customers rather they want the customer to directly buy a product without bargaining or properly checking it.

Let me share with you one of such worst shopping experiences.
I usually do not shop. I have started shopping in recent days. Before this, it was my little brother who used to arrange everything for me. This incident happened in recent times. I was looking for some shoes. I wanted them for some rough use so instead of visiting brands, I thought to check ordinary shops first as rates are usually low here. While visiting one shop after another, I reached the shop of that grumpy man. No cleanliness in the shop, no extra assistance from him, and no customers as well, he was all alone with his peppery looks.
Initially, he acted well but when I tried to search more and more as it is my habit to ask for prices of all and negotiate two to three shoes at a time, he lost his temper. He stopped responding to my offers and instead raised his demand price more than what was written on the shoes. I was so surprised by this attitude. I thought he was joking but he was damn serious. On my further argumentation on price, he said that he didn’t want to sell and you may leave. He snatched the shoes from my hand and asked me to go.
And I was left with surprising astonishment. I never saw any trader with such an attitude. Traders usually adopt sweet behavior. They butter their customers but this one was different. He was repelling his customer.
Contrary to this, there was a moment when I was impressed by the behavior of the shopkeeper. I was looking for some sweets. I was not in my hometown but out of the station. There were many shops claiming to be original so it was hard to decide from whom to buy. I devised a strategy to taste from all and buy from one whose taste beats all.
When I visited the first shop, it was giving a good ambiance. I asked the shopkeeper and he offered me different types of sweets to taste. It was good but I wanted to check others as well. I said to him that I didn’t like the taste and asked for money to pay for these samples. He smiled at my answer and said “No money, you didn’t like it. No issue but these were samples so that you can taste”.
I was impressed by his tone and his attitude and instead of visiting others, I bought the sweets from the same shop.
Here are two of my contrasting trading experiences. This is my blog for #hl-exclusive and #hl-w150e1.
