I was scrolling my Instagram feed a few days ago when I saw a video. The video titled “My life these days be like” was a 20s short in which a cartoonish character was going to work at 7 o clock and returning at 6 o clock evening. This was his life in which he was bound to be punctual. He had no flexibility in this. He could not go to the workplace at 8 because he was tired and his sleep was not sufficient for him. I laughed at that video because my friend also complained to me about his routine.
It is said that for success you have to be very clear, punctual, and firm. Your surroundings must not affect or fluctuate your routine. Your internal rebellious person who may provoke you to get rid of your goals must be dead. This is so true. Success demands proper determination and resoluteness and leaves no room for flexibility once you have decided. The journey ends when the destination is reached and a person whose commitments flinch on the way cannot reach their destination.
But it is also true that following the same routine each day will not save you from becoming a machine that is switched on and off at a fixed time and rate depending upon commands given to it. When we are so determined about the destination we must not ignore the lapse of life which is spent on the journey. On destination, you will face pleasure for a short while while the journey can provide you with exciting and adventurous merriment at each moment.
My father left an established business of 25 years. When I asked the reason to do so. He said I was tired of my daily fixed work routine. I had no time for my engagements due to the management of that business. What is the motive for earning that money which snatches your freedom from you? Now I am happy with what I am doing as it gives me flexibility to arrange my affairs according to my own will.
Talking about me, though I want inflexibility and resoluteness, I am mostly asked for flexibility. I see my contemporaries just relentlessly rushing towards their goals and striving hard by ignoring every distraction, I face a lot of distractions daily, and being me, instead of adjusting them according to my work routine, I adjust my work routine according to them. On a daily basis well to be exact on a weekly basis I make a weekly chart to enlist the things I will do with punctuality but my whole planning distorts when I receive my breakfast at 10 am instead of 9 am.
Even writing this blog is not at the time which I have fixed for it. I am writing it about 4 hours later than the time I decided to. So in short neither my daily nor the order is fixed rather I enjoy a lot of flexibility in it. Actually, I am not so happy with it. Undoubtedly, due to this malleable and flexible routine, I keep a fresh mind. I do not get exhausted so easily. I am free from any sort of depression and anxiety but this is not so good for my goals as well which demand consistency, commitment, and resoluteness.Flexibility is good unless it does not not affect your commitments and ambitions and inflexibility is allowed unless it doesn't diminish your personality, your creativity and your humanism.
