The heart is still wrenching due to a horrific incident that happened on Aug 9 in a state of India where a girl was raped and murdered brutally. My mind is still unable to accept how a person keeping a heart can desecrate and kill an innocent girl in such a horrendous, brutal, and inhuman way. I am just left with one question i.e. Was he a human?
Why did he/they do that? Lust? Womanization?Extremism? illness of mind? Or what you......
A girl with dreams in her eyes, ambitions in mind, hard work in life, innocence on her face, and delicacy in her personality is desecrated in such a way that her parents were initially denied to visit her dead body. According to some eyewitnesses, her body was lying in a semi-nude position in the seminal hall of a teaching medical college. Her pelvis was broken, her body was lacerated by cutts, her lips were bleeding, her vagina was filled with semen and her eyes were injured by broken pieces of glass. The hands are shaking while writing this even and that fairy suffered it till her last breadth.
what was her fault? ....... fulfilling her ambition? fulfilling her duty? helping mankind? being born a girl? or living in a world filled with such files?
What would be her feelings when she had been assaulted? What was the level of pain she withstood? How miserable and helpless she might have felt? How much implore did she might have make to those brutal?
The incidents of gender-based violence have surged throughout the world, especially in developing countries. The misogyny, male-female dichotomous theories, patriarchal society, lust and libido, illness of mind, and male dominance are the main causes of it. Gender-based violence has many forms i.e. physical violence, sexual violence, and psychological violence. The women are perceived as slaves ,sluts and primitive creature only and roots of this theories are centuries old. Throughout the centuries the dignity of women has been demolished in the name of honor, needs, desires, and diplomacy. Almost 1 out of 3 women has suffered any sort of violence anytime in her life. And this stigma is not confined only to a specific border but shows its prevalence throughout the world. Many legislations have been ratified but what fruits have they yielded to us?

Awareness is one of the keys to tackling gender-based violence. Did awareness protect Doctor Momina Debnath from getting desecrated? Women's education is also a strategy to cope with violence against women. Was Momina an illiterate girl? The introduction of instant response teams is also introduced in some countries but the question arises was she in the position to call someone for help? Did those nefarious hoodlums give her enough time? They treated her like a dog treats a meat. They had no humanity. They raped her even after she breathed her last.
Was this an only case?Nopes . The society is filled with many such reported and unreported cases where ladies are profaned irrespective of their age. What is the solution to this? How to stop this irreverence of fair sex? How to protect our mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters? The culprits even heard to blame that innocent soul for his vile act. They are hard to do so because those who wander outside late, who wear short dresses, who are financially independent, who can speak of their rights, and who want to enjoy possess no dignity and this is fair to this heinous act to them.
Can lynching of a culprit set a warning precedence for others? Is public hanging a good solution?
Will these two punishments help in uprooting this evil?
This has always been a matter of discourse with both pros and cons but the thing we must remember is that setting a precedence of intense punishment is essential to curb this horrendous act otherwise the laws give many places to escape and the victim remains without justice.
