It's funny how I wanted to start this post with a Christmas song, and you might be wondering why I didn't sing "Wonder No More." Well, I have my reasons why I didn't sing because if I did: "I don't know what would happen to your ears " the listeners. In order not to cause any kind of damage to your ears, I decided to keep my cool and not sing to save your ears.
Enough of the Christmas song I wanted to sing, Let's dive into the subject matter." When I saw this topic, I remembered what happened to my brother when he decided to travel to our hometown to celebrate the festive season. According to him before leaving the house that day, he had already prepared himself physically and financially.
On getting to our hometown, he saw people he knew, definitely traveling to such a place you are gonna be surrounded by close and extended family members who are gonna task you one way or the other and as someone coming from somewhere that looked like a city, you have to pay the homage by buying drinks or giving out in cash.
After a few days of staying in our hometown, my brother had spent all he had, both his transportation back home. He was so stranded that he had to put calls through to my mum, and she supported him with his transport fare. That was how my big brother traveled back to the house looking financially drained and sucked.
A friend of mine would always advise "December salary is meant to be spent in January" Anytime he says this, something will always dawn on me not to spend out of budget and always prepare for the coming month, so I won't look at the month and be like "why does January have 60 days" to avoid such, I spend cautiously.
Every celebration is associated with bills to settle, but the Christmas season is accompanied by extravagant expenses regardless of the status and the situation of the economy. Some people try to do everything in their power to make their family and loved ones smile by gifting them. While others go the extra mile to obtain loans from different places just to please the people around them.
Its no doubt that this particular season comes with a lot of hurdles mainly in the area of our finances, So what I do every festive season like this, is to write down everything I need for the festive season, and those I'd be gifting with cash, once I get to my limit I don't exceed it because exceeding would lead to something else and I don't want that for myself. I can't start the year looking broke.
I live within my budget right after taking care of my financial commitment, then it's time to take care of myself. I deserve a treat after eleven months of running to the office without a proper rest, pampering myself by getting things I've been craving for a while because I deserve every bit of it. It's my hard work paying off so I need to have a taste of it as well.
