In the bustling university of UwU, there was a student named Alextonian Grafington, known for their rationality and meticulous approach to academics. On the other hand, there was a student named Gregorious Rex, who had been a prodigy for creating awesome works in the past, it built his confidence to procrastinate and prioritize short-term pleasures over long-term goals. Two unique personalities with a common goal.
One semester, both Alex and Greg were assigned a challenging research project that would contribute significantly to their final grades. Alex immediately began planning their time, breaking down the project into manageable tasks and setting deadlines for each stage. They visited the library, collected relevant resources, and diligently started working on their project.
Greg, on the other hand, chose to enjoy the initial weeks of the semester, attending social events and engaging in leisure activities with friends. They convinced themselves that there was plenty of time to work on the project and that they would manage it effortlessly and confidently at the last minute. Also, he noticed that Alex was repeatedly revising his paper and being called back and forth by the professors.
"What a hassle!" Greg exclaimed in his thoughts.
As the due date approached, Alex had made significant progress, having conducted thorough research, organized their findings, and drafted a well-structured paper. They even found time to seek feedback from professors and make necessary revisions. Feeling confident and prepared, Alex submitted their project ahead of schedule.
Meanwhile, Greg, overwhelmed by the mounting pressure, finally realized the gravity of the situation. They frantically rushed to gather information, struggling to find relevant sources and struggling to piece together their thoughts. Late nights and last-minute efforts became the norm as Greg tried to catch up. Unfortunately, there was a sudden outage of power days before the submission, and Greg still hasn't accomplished analyzing his parts.
As the deadline loomed, Greg's work was hurried, disjointed, and lacked depth. Exhausted and stressed, they submitted their project just in time but with a sinking feeling of inadequacy.
When the grades were announced, Alex received an excellent score for their well-researched and carefully crafted project. Greg, however, was disappointed with a mediocre grade that reflected their rushed and incomplete work.
Feeling dejected, Greg approached Alex, humbled by their rational approach. "Alex, I now understand the importance of your rationality and planning. I let my impulsiveness and procrastination sabotage my project and, ultimately, my grade. Can you give me some advice on how to be more rational and disciplined?"
Alex, empathetic yet firm, offered guidance to Greg. He explained the importance of being mindful of the time and the responsibilities a person has, setting goals, and breaking tasks into reachable small steps. He also emphasized prioritizing responsibilities and balancing them with leisure activities, rather than succumbing to immediate gratification. Even though a person may be talented and all, there will be instances when bad luck happens.
"Luck will not always be on your side Greg, sometimes you need to make space for lady luck to sit beside you" Alex added.
Greg acknowledged their mistakes and vowed to adopt a more rational and disciplined approach in the future. They realized that sacrificing short-term pleasures for long-term success is a valuable lesson that extends beyond academic endeavors.
Being the impulsive person I am, here I am again starting a new trend in my posts. I have been fascinated with writing since high school. I mentioned in my last blog that I received some awards in writing as a school essayist, those were some awesome memories to take a look back. I participated in various competitions and won some of them. Though it was not my dream to be a writer. I was actually just challenged by my English teacher, the story is I was so late in passing our essay requirement to his class and I made a bargain. I told him that I will write the most beautiful essay that we will read in his life. He agreed and gave me the weekend to finish the essay.
On that weekend, I read two books about essays and different writing styles, did intensive research on the topic, and wrote like an academic.
That's when I learned that I can write and accomplish anything as long as I focus deeply enough. I submitted the essay and my English teacher said indeed this is the most beautiful essay I read. So he asked me to join a competition, which I surprisingly won.
Fast forward to today, recalling that instance made me want to get that inner hobby of mine that was buried a long time ago. So I hurriedly cleaned the table outside and wrote this story.
This going to be my designated work area where I will do all my paper works and creative stuff. The setup that I have in my room will just be for streaming and gaming.
I will now be separating my gaming hobby from work-related tasks. Separating them means having a designated work area for each. I am slowly building a habit of scheduling every task that I need to finish, I am becoming more of an Alextonian Grafington than a Gregorious Rex now.
Here is my view when I need to relax my eyes and get some inspiration from nature. I usually start writing at 6 AM, the sun rays are my source of energy and motivation plus the caffeine that I get from a cup of coffee.
This is my own way of being productive and making use of my impulsive behaviors. To sit in my new focus place and enjoy nature.
As a person with a lot of hobbies, I find it really tiring to do all of them in just one area. So I decided to bring my laptop outside and do my creative stuff here.
Being rational and disciplined yields rewards in various aspects of life. Whether it's academic pursuits, professional projects, or personal goals, careful planning, and thoughtful execution lead to better outcomes. Procrastination and impulsive decisions may provide temporary relief or enjoyment, but they often result in unnecessary stress, missed opportunities, and subpar results.
The story is inspired by Aesop's fable: The Ant and the Grasshopper. The cover is designed using canva.com with premium apps
